The comment was that it would save you R190 000 in fuel over five years. It can’t, because you simply won’t use that much fuel using their own assumptions on mileage.
What would the need be for a charging network for it to be a viable option? At 500km (LR) range, range isn't going to be an issue 90% of the time even without a charging network. In my opinion, the people who can afford the Model 3 are usually the same people who have a second car which they can use for trips where range would otherwise be an issue.
With our current average income, exchange rates and living costs, unless the government starts an initiative for AT LEAST duty free EV imports subsides, the Model 3 will be "for the masses" to the extent that entry level German sedans area.

Bulgarian tuner Vilner jazzes up the 3’s interior
Loud, isn’t it? The regular Tesla Model 3 - officially Top Gear’s Saloon of the Year! - makes no traditional car noises of course, so Bulgarian modifier Vilner Garage has amped up the inside. Here, there is no ‘off’ button, only ‘11’.
Welcome then, to a “symbiosis of form and function”, according to Vilner, that “corresponds with the higher academic class of the fine arts”. It is a hand-built interior, that removes the factory trim and replaces it with straight-up free-form textile jazz.
There’s a turquoise wool damask covering the main bit of the seats and backrests. A similar colour – “but with a smoother nuance” – hits the side columns, centre console and sunroof trim.

I'm on a remote job site now. Had to drive 2hrs to the airport in -10 and full on snow...drove with the boss in his Model 3...and it was an absolute dream. IT also stays plugged in at the airport so when we get back there will be no scraping of ice for 30mins and defrosting the windows.
Right now the rental im driving to site is a Lexus NX300h...it looks like it has all the Belgian whistles and comes with a steep price tag, but I'd STILL choose the model 3 over it any day of the week.
IT seems that modern car info units etc is outdated even before it rolls off the floor...and will never see the light of a software update to make it better in any way.
I dunno hey, it's going to be really tough for me to see any non tesla as a viable option for the money in the foreseeable future...which really sucks because as much as I WANT a model 3, I don't need one...I need an old 2nd hand SUV for the gf and pup...and snowy conditions when I'm away. (Even my Isuzu had to go into 4x4 mode to reverse out my snow covered driveway the other morning.

Tesla considers cutting price of China built cars next year
Tesla Inc. is considering cutting the price of its China-built Model 3 sedans by 20 percent or more next year, people familiar with the plans said, betting the move will lure buyers as the world’s biggest electric-vehicle market slows.
Tesla aims to bring down costs by using more local components, allowing it to import fewer parts and avoid tariffs, the people said, asking not to be identified as the matter isn’t public. Prices of the cars, which will be built in Tesla’s new Shanghai factory and start at 355800 yuan ($50800), will probably be lowered from the second half of 2020, they said.
Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk is counting on the multibillion-dollar Shanghai plant, Tesla’s first factory outside the US, to give it an edge over the likes of BMW AG and Daimler AG, which are also targeting China with new EV models. The move would also pressure local incumbents such as NIO Inc. and Xpeng Motors to follow suit with price cuts.

Tesla beat Wall Street estimates for annual vehicle deliveries and met the low-end of its own target, sending shares to a record high in a vindication for Chief Executive Elon Musk in the aftermath of a few turbulent years.
Boosted by demand for its Model 3 sedan as overseas sales pick up, Tesla announced on Friday that it had delivered 112 000 vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2019, including 92 550 Model 3s, which was above expectations of 104 960 vehicles, according to IBES data from Refinitiv.
The Silicon Valley carmaker delivered approximately 367 500 vehicles during all of 2019, just meeting the low end of its target to deliver 360 000 to 400 000 vehicles in 2019.
With a market valuation of more than $80 billion (R1.1 trillion), Tesla is far outstripping those of traditional carmakers such as General Motors and Ford.
The delivery results defy skeptics of Musk, whose mercurial behavior over the last two years came under close scrutiny from federal regulators and shareholders of Tesla.
