The Tesla Model Y Thread

There's something strange going on over here at the moment.

Model-Y prices are dropping: (x1.66 for ZAR)

Meanwhile there are just more and more VW ID.4s on the streets lately...as in a LOT. 3 of my neighbours have them already and they're old ballies. Yet the pricing is bonkers compared to Model-Y's.

Not only that but it seems there's been a bunch of accidents involving ID.4's with defective capacitive button inputs. Complete hearsay at the moment, but Im keen to find out more.

Live photo shows Model Y facelift with redesigned rear

Even though Elon Musk repeatedly said the Model Y refresh isn't coming this year, it's quite evident that the company is working on the updated model. After all, the Model Y is the company's best-selling model (and even the best-selling vehicle in 2023), and it was released back in 2020, so it's high time the compact SUV gets a refresh.

The latest live photos from Reddit give us a glimpse of what the Model Y "Juniper" facelift might end up looking. One of the photos shows the back design with a full-width LED bar and Tesla's inscription embedded into it, reminiscent of Audi and Porsche's recent design.

Tesla Model Y gets option of seven seats for 2025

Highly popular electric family SUV now offers a third row of seats for a £2500 price increase

The Tesla Model Y crossover will get a seven-seat variant in the UK for the first time, with the new model due to arrive later this quarter.

Priced at £2500 more than the current range-topping Model Y, the seven-seater features a third row of two additional forward-facing seats.

Also at the back are two USB-C ports, one for each seat.

With all of its seats up, the EV offers 363 litres of cargo space, from floor to roof. This increases to 753 litres with the third row folded flat and reaches as high as 2040 litres with all three rows down.

Previously, Tesla's only other car to offer seven seats was the Tesla Model X SUV, but that variant is no longer available in the UK.

The seven-seat Model Y Long Range All Wheel Drive offers up to 373 miles of range.

Tesla expands Model Y portfolio with seven-seat option in Europe

Tesla has rolled out a seven-seat configuration for its popular Model Y in Europe, catering to larger families or those needing extra passenger capacity. The option is currently available exclusively for the Long Range all-wheel drive variant, adding €2,500 to the base price. This brings the starting price to €57,490 in Germany and £53,500 in the UK.

The third row features two forward-facing seats that fold down when not in use. Tesla emphasizes the ease of access to the third row, thanks to buttons on the second-row seats that slide and fold them forward. Two USB-C ports are provided in the third row for charging devices. But don't expect adults to fit in them comfortably - these are "jump seats" designed for kids.

Naturally, the addition of a third row impacts cargo space. With all seven seats in use, the Model Y offers 363 l of storage in the trunk. Combined with the 117 l front trunk, this provides a total of 480 l of cargo capacity. Folding down the third-row seats increases the cargo space to 753 l. For comparison, the five-seat Model Y offers 854 l with the rear seats up and a maximum of 2,158 l with the rear seats folded down. The seven-seat configuration offers a maximum of 2,040 l of cargo space.

Tesla looks to position the seven-seat Model Y as the ultimate family vehicle. In its press release, the company stated, "The Model Y was designed from the outset to be the perfect family SUV, offering great versatility. Hundreds of thousands of households worldwide have chosen the Model Y as their primary vehicle for their daily commute and long-distance journeys. With the introduction of the 7-seater option in Germany, we are taking versatility to a new level."

The Tesla Model Y is now available with seven seats in the UK

The Model X may have gone, but for £2,500 extra you can now have a third row in a Model Y

Tesla has finally announced that you’ll be able to spec a Model Y with seven seats in the UK. Yep, we’ve been denied the third-row seating option that’s available in the US, but now that the larger Model X has disappeared from our shores it makes sense for Tesla to make the Model Y that little bit more practical.

The seven-seat interior will be a £2,500 option and will only be available on the Long Range All-Wheel Drive iteration of the Model Y. Prices for that car start at £51,990. There still aren’t that many seven-seat EVs available at that price point in the UK, so the Y will be up against cars like the Mercedes EQB and the Peugeot E-5008.

We’re yet to experience the Model Y’s third row in person, but it does look a little cramped back there in the boot.

You lose around 100 litres of luggage space if you spec the extra seating too, although Tesla reckons there’s still a useful 363 litres of space even when the third row is occupied. When those two seats are folded flat you get 753 litres.
