The top 3 operating systems

Better audio is expected from Ubuntu 9.10 and again this is going to be a critical proving ground for the Linux upstart. Audio handling on Linux has been famously bad over the years and as multimedia becomes an increasingly important part of the modern desktop, audio failings become increasingly noticeable. This is even more the case since Windows 7 includes Windows Media Player 12 which not only makes it easier for users to manage their media files but also makes it easy to stream multimedia over home networks.

Sorry but WMP is a crock of you know what. Not to be a fanboy (don't use ubuntu) but what audio issues are they referring to?

That will be followed in October by Microsoft's Windows 7 and Ubuntu's 9.04...
Not so - Ubuntu 9.04 is the current version

I don't know either.... I've never had any real audio issues. I do know however that 5.1 is a mission......

But overall I really can't wait for 9.10 to be released. Just hope they fixed the 3G issues.....

Who cares about WMP? Just don't use it. VLC FTW! But W7 is pure awesomeness...

Unbalanced M$ fanboi article if you ask me.
Got the ubuntu version wrong, as well.

While Vista included every possible desktop application by default, Windows 7 will ship with a restricted set of applications and allows users to download additional tools only if they want them.

BS. Unbridled BS.
If anything, ubuntu comes with "every possible ... application"
Windows comes with zero.

I used to hate myself, I couldnt bare to see my own face and body in the mirror, days were long, I had no energy.

But then I discovered Windows 7! Now I drive a german sedan, and have a hot wife!

Thank you Microsoft!

Geez dude, I'm sorry you're life is so dependent on an operating system. You should get out more.

Amazingly enough - I haven't seen a lot of desktop applications included in Vista? AFAIK you still had to buy M$ Office?

Bwaaaahahahahah! Thanks for starting my day off with a giggle :D

You should try Gom player, freeware and plays just about any format.

Dude, VLC.
Enough said....

Oh and Win7 looks good but is still a M$ product.
Long live Ubuntu!!!:)

As my fellow forumiteers mentioned, Ubuntu does come with added applications.
Win7 not....

RPM, you should change/amend the article. It is incorrect!

Awesome!

I've in fact just installed Ubuntu on an older machine and am dying to get some mp3's playing. Considering that Ubuntu comes with "every possible ... application" fully functional I will have no problem getting it running.

Wait... what?...ubuntu-restricted-extras?...WTF?!?!?

Sorry dude, but Canonical have been doing this for ages. If anything Microsoft are only just catching on now. Honestly it is the best approach and is something that I have always enjoyed about Ubuntu. It ships with the basics and then you decide afterwards what you want to run on it as there is such a huge choice.

What are you talking about?!
If you have an internet connection, then you can do anything with Ubuntu!

VLC is AWESOME FAILNESS!!!

Media Player CLassic is teh shizz :D

That is seriously your response?...SERIOUSLY?

Did you not read the quote in my previous post?

We were talking about what Ubuntu is SHIPPED with, not what you download after you have installed it. Either keep up or go stick your head in the paper shredder.
