The updated eighty six

"The 2017 Toyota GT86 will debut at the 2016 New York International Auto Show, before going on sale in autumn 2016.

Toyota GT86 adopts more aggressive styling with a larger centre intake emphasizing the low, wide stance of the car. This complements a new design with re-configured LED front headlamps and turn signals, a new fog lamp bezel and revised bumper. The rear now features LED tail lamps and a new bumper design. The alloy wheels have a new twisted spoke design.

The interior sensory quality has been greatly improved: a new Leather-Alcantara seat option with suede wrapped instrument panel is available. The same material adds a new, soft feel to the door trim. Drivers will also enjoy new seating material with silver stitching and a sporty steering wheel with integrated audio controls and an 86 logo on the centre hub.

The already legendary dynamics of the Toyota GT86 have further been improved upon. A new suspension set-up with revised shock tuning and a changed spring rate make the car easier to control and more agile than ever, delivering an even more entertaining drive.

Since its launch the Toyota GT86 has given shape to several Toyota motorsport activities. Toyota Motorsports GmbH (TMG) has developed two motorsport-specific variants: the GT86 CS-R3, a rear wheel drive rally car, and the GT86 CS-Cup, developed specifically for competing at the renowned Nürburgring Nordschleife."

No word on any possible power upgrade or more pics for time being.

Update: Very slight power increase.

"The shocks and spring rate of the 86 have been revised to make the coupe more agile and easier to control which might be necessary thanks to the minor increase of power and torque from the 2,0-litre straight four boxer engine which will now deliver 153 kW and 212 N.m of torque."

My biggest gripe with the first gen was interior quality, rattles maybe a little sound dampening. Was a little 90's inside for my taste.

No word on forced induction? That's where it falls short the most.

why? forced induction will simply raise the cost

also this is a highly tuneable car and fitting an aftermarket turbo application may prove cheaper than a factory fitted application

I know what it's like, I've owned one since not long after launch. It struggles at the reef. I like the smaller engine capacity though. 2.0 with a small turbo would be super.

so fit it yourself, small bolt on turbo applications do not cost much, at most off the top of my head I'm guessing around 30k running at 0.5 bar on standard internals

Tuneable yes, at the expense of your warranty. If an engine is forced induction, I would prefer it to be covered by the manufacturer...

And void my warranty? No thanks. Parts on this thing aren't cheap.

Also, a turbo has essentially one place it can fit - on the bottom of the car when it can suck up all sorts of gunk. Superchargers go on with fewer issues, in this application.

given that this is supposed to be an affordeable rear wheel drive tuneable car the warranty on the motor is not a huge thing, don't they sell lexus V8 motors for 5k?

its pointless crying about that drive train because it was not intended to remain that way, it was simply to reduce costs so that tuners have a canvass to go crazy, and there are some crazy 86s out there these days, even a 5s one.

If it was built with tuning in mind then they should be more lenient with the warranty. As mentioned, parts aren't cheap...

that would open them up to warranty claims

the model works, and its been working for others with modified 86s, of which there are many

Like a Toyota?
Yes but with looks like that on the outside one at least expects better plastics not that rock hard grey tupperware stuff. And the one I drove would rattle like a ford Sierra. You know that hollow plastic my whole dashboard is shaking vibe, the 90's Toyota's were better.

The standard spec interior might be a bit date. The high spec is much better. Haven't encountered any of these shakes and rattles that you speak of, and with the various switches and dual-zone climate control it also looks cool...
