Until this thread I thought that there was nothing negative about the 86.

I'm going to be getting an (used) 86 at the end of the year. It's either that or the A class if they come down in price by the end of the year.

There it looks like the old Tiburon. Fail!!!

Personally I think the old Tiburon was a great shape.

Still stands the test of time. Just wish there was more car to it.

Thanks. I'll be sure to put a new head unit in.

Anybody know how easy that is to do?

The A-Class is awesome, but I can guarantee you it won't put the same kind of smile on your face as the 86 will. :)

The first time that tail slips a little around a round about at pedestrian speeds and you control it like the stig... At least that's what you feel like even if it was 15km/h you'll forget all about the interior or some minor rattles.

Also just check out this common problem: https://www.google.co.za/search?q=g...e&ie=UTF-8#safe=off&q=gt86+oil+leak+cam+plate

Use it to knock some money off the price. Tell the salesman "hey look this car has a oil leak" then say if you give me a great deal i'll take it and get it fixed. It's a cheap fix, some sealant or a new plate. But the salesman wont know that otherwise he would have done it already.

Perfect hairdresser's car

Look, all I can say is that the current GT86 is a real head-turner. I prefer more power; but for those who have this car it is just churlish to call it "gay". Which is what you meant by hairdresser's car, not so.

I don't know if I'll be able to wait based on how excited you guys are making me.

Do any of you guys have 86s?

Ah, but what do I do? Is it acceptable for somebody to go to a dealership and say that they want to inspect the car under the hood for no apparent reason? Althought I could just say that I want to check if it has a leak which is common?
An hour or two job, get the harness from Amazon to keep the stock usb and aux connectors.
Where would I get one of them? The same place I buy the head unit from?

k.

Look at me: I'm so insecure with the image of my manliness[sup](TM)[/sup] that I project my insecurity onto the cars of the world, because other men said so.
Thanks a lot. I appreciate you guys making sure I know that it's not a hairdressers car. I was starting to doubt it being the correct choice for me but not anymore.

If you're buying a secondhand car you should inspect the car and every nook and cranny. Check that the seams align check for accident history check for respray. Press every button, rev it hard if you have to check for smoke and the colour check the dipstick for bubbles or milky oil. Check fluid levels check radiator fluid for possible sludge check seals and gaskets. Rev it bang it drive it check alignment, balancing tire thread, tire brands, rim scuffs... Put on jack wiggle suspension parts for any problems. Everything, its your money all of it, every cent get what you deserve for it. And yes it's perfectly acceptable and if any dealer has a problem with it run somewhere else. What does he have to hide if its a quality secondhand car?

If you find anything wrong mention it to the dealer, negotiate decide if the defect is something you'll accept for the price or maybe they can fix it before you take ownership. Chips dents anything.

It's called a car dealership they make deals, it's not a retail store.

Just reving you guys up, relax.
Actually the older MX5 was one of the best handling cars and as for the 86 it's alot better but I'd prefer the Subaru version.
The new MX5 does look nice as well.

I know a buddy with a 1st Gen MX-5 & that thing still goes. It got the opt hardtop so wind noise in the cabin is pretty bad though..for a 20+ old car it's hardly an issue.

Love the 86, been toying (pardon) with the idea of letting my 2011 ST go to get one of these, but parting with the 5 pot is tough. Will hang on to it for a while longer but the 86 is definitely something to consider in the future.

My biggest gripe with the 86 is the steering wheel. It's like a knobbly protrusion from hell (or 1968).

Great car apart from that.
