IF THE FURORE CONCERNING Telkom's black economic empowerment deal and the more recent Reunert transaction are anything to go by, then Vodacom should probably anticipate significant criticism when it announces its R7,5bn empowerment deal in the next few weeks - particularly if the transaction empowers the "usual suspects" and former Government officials.

Telecoms costs with Vodacom Tanzania is cheaper than it is with Vodacom South Africa.
Telecoms costs with MTN Nigeria is cheaper than with MTN South Africa.
And people ask why SA has the highest telecoms cost in Africa. These damn BEE with the purpose of alleviating poverty is IMO creating poverty as highest telecoms costs in Africa eats up consumers disposable income, is a drain on small business, is a added costs factored into services and kills SA's competitiveness with the rest of the world.

Making statements like “telecoms costs are too expensive compared to India” ain’t gonna solve the problem you smuck.
