In recent years they have changed their tune with the Citi not making the runners up even.
If you read my previous post properly, you would have seen that I only considered it from a handling point of view. Considering the full package, I would not say that the Golf is the best, but it comes out tops in the categories where I needed it to. That is why I drive one.

My Opel has never left me stranded next to the road
Neither has my car, but you took it out of context - I never mentioned you standing at the side of the road.
I have seen VWs fail a lot earlier... simply because they are not all their made up to be.
My father's 1989 Jetta CLX made it to ~260 000km before he sold it.

Obviously surviving an accident was an afterthought.

I have no problem with the citi - it was cleansing the gene pool.

Well, it was that or a Tazz. If the impact kills me in a Citi, it would kill me in a Tazz as well. If I wanted safe and unaffordable (compared to the Citi/Tazz/Corsa maintenance cost), I would have taken a Volvo.

The i10 has better handling than any other cars in that price range and if you get the HS model it is way safer too.

I am really glad my parents got rid of all our VWs and moved up market to Mercedes. Thesedays they cost the same due to VAGs overpricing but you look less of a commoner in a Mercedes.

The i10 wasn't around when I got my car in 2005, now was it?

...look less of a commoner in a Mercedes.
Well, that's my problem. I don't mind what other people think when they see my choice of car.

:sick::sick: i10
Its ugly!
It handles like crap
It has no power
Its ugly!

Does it come with a 7 year warranty? Thats good.... for girls!:p

Theres another thing about the Citi, I think every driver in the world should start driving on a Citi, the rawness of the car, No gizmos like power steering, ABS, electric this and that.... the way it handles in certain conditions, the clutch that catches high up, that random mad burst of torque, locking wheels under hard braking... its a stepping stone to your next car... :)

The majority of people will disagree with you - the i10 is a pretty sweet and aggressive looking car. If you park it (or a piece of turd) next to a shCITI then the i10/turd will always come out tops in terms of look (and feel/smell? :p)

If you read the reviews of the i10 - and actually take one for a drive, maybe from Stellenbosch to Hermanus and back over the Sir Lowries and Botrivier passes, you will be pleasantly surprised by the handling. That is because this is a modern car that was designed in the last 4 years - not 40 years ago.

For its fuel consumption and engine size it has lots of power and climbing Botrivier pass is a pleasure if you are looking for a little shifting fun between 2nd, 3rd and 4th. The engine is very willing (the 1.2 at least).

The best thing about the shCITI is that they stopped making it. Toyota stopped the Tazz, Mazda stopped the Midge, Nissan stopped the Champ, Opel will have to stop the Lite and the Uno Way is not selling a lot. This is because most companies realized they cannot go on and sell South Africans a bunch of old crap. VW did not share this point of view for a long time and only now as more and more people start to point out how crap the shCITI is, are they looking into stopping it.

I do share one opinion with you, every driver in the world should start by driving a shCITI. In the end there will be less drivers on the road and people will definitely know what NOT to buy next time round.
