LOL Nice one...what we all seem to forget is that the original Golf had one of the best safety ratings when it was originally built.......still beats the hell out of some much newer designs nogal!!
The two outer arms on which the engine is mounted are designed to crush progressively, whilst the engine drops below the car......try that one in a Chana/Chery/Indica and i know who will come off worst!

Yeah, but it can't compare with the safety of an i10, Panda, Spark, Suzuki Alto etc - all of which are the same price as a Citi.

JK8 : Maybe because if you did the study I reckon you'd find of the NEW passenger cars the Citi has one of the worst safety records.

I was giving this some thought earlier on, and I am of the opinion that a hell of a lot of younger guys suddenly see themselves as invincible once surrounded by airbags,ABS, EBD and whatever electronic safety feature you can think of. The excuse then is, that they can drive as recklessly as they wish and be saved by the car...............
I have said it before, and i'm saying it again...it's time that guys started taking advanced drivuing lessons and learnt how to AVOID accidents, rather than buying the most expensive car on the road that is full of every safety gizmo that you can think of.
Both my cars date back to pre - air bag days...I don't quake every time I get behind the wheel...I drive within the car's limitations...something that seems to be lacking on our roads today...

Actually I think all young people behind the wheel seem to think they're invincible or the best drivers on the road regardless of what safety features the vehicle has, and I kind of feel a car that has been designed more recently than 30 years ago is a better option for younger people given their predisposition to being idiots.

At the risk of sounding like a total old f@rt...that was the point I was trying to make with my other post.
I know that a couple of guys here have done their Advanced Drivers courses...and I can also remember the fact that I was racing already when I did mine.....I had been driving since the age of 11 and thought that I knew it all, and actually had the course given to me as a gift. I went along, expecting to teach them a thing or two, and came away from the course, not only a better driver but a far more humble one! It improved my racing performance as well!!!
One of the main things that must be emphasized, however, is the fact that one is taught to AVIOID an accident in the first place.
I kniow that I wouldn't be writing this right now if I hadn't known exactly what to do when suddenly coming up behind a car and trailer without taillights between JHB and Pretoria on a very rainy night. I was able to deliberately spin my car out of trouble without hurting anyone in the process. Had my AD skills not kicked in, I would have ended up cutting my head off and wiping out the family in the car pullling the trailer.
Airbags would not have helped one little bit...and cadence braking helped sort out the lack of ABS!
When I tried to work out how I had missed everything, I actually realised that I had had the AD technique so drilled into me, that everything I did was instinctual.......without that, a Volvo or any 5 star NCAP car wouldn't have saved me...

yip I agree 100%, if you driving a car like a Citi with crap brakes that you know will lock and you will skid out of control, you need to use the brakes accordingly... same with a car with good brakes and ABS, you still need to know how the car will react under braking, even if you pushing it and need to brake hard.
The perfect example will be BMW drivers, BMs tend to feel very solid in wet conditions and it plays on the drivers mind that the car is stable and stuck to the road, but on a slight bend in wet weather and a playful accelerator you WILL lose the back end, Ive seen it way too many times...

Shweet!! I got a call from a mate who works in Isando to say that he saw one of these driving near the airport last week...now THAT would be a nice little replacement!!
And theres a 1.4TSi model... if its R150k I think VW will steal the market again!
