They should actually make a sport model, 1.8i or 2.0i before they end the production

They have a GTS again with decals like the original . The original mk1 is the only golf 1 I have respect for , with that you have street cred. The rest I hate, especially the ones with "cone filters"! For some reason every person that has a golf with a cone filter thinks they can take on anything!

Oh happy fscking days...

FINALLY VW get a clue.... This should have happened at LEAST 15 years ago.

And anyone who thinks the CitiGolf is value for money, or has been in the last 10 years needs to get their head read.

I don't think that the Marketing Department would agree with you!! They are laughing all the way to the bank...The jigs for producing the Citi were amortised about 20 years ago...plain profit since then!! :D

I have no comment for people who fall for marketing campaigns, rather than making an informed decision :)

If I was in VW's place and had a stupid population that would buy overpriced carp, hell I'd sell it.. without a doubt and I'd laugh all the way to the bank as well.

As a government and a population, we should have banned that vehicle AGES ago.

I agree with you, but VW would have been crazy to stop building the car when it was making money hand over fist..which it has done, way beyond its sell by date...

After all some people even buy Chanas and Cherys.......given the choice between one of those and a Citi, I know which one I would choose!! :D

As Jezza put it - if you buy a crap car, then you're telling the world that you have no interest in cars. And if you have no interest in cars then you have no interest in driving and therefore won't be any good at it. I'd stay clear of anyone in a Chana, Chery or Citi.

And given the choice, I'd rather get a demo/2nd hand car and not have to worry about taking the initial knock in depreciation. Learned my lesson, not buying new again :)

I agree with you 100% on not buying new and taking the inevitable knock on price. I disagree, however, on being a "non enthusiast" and buying a Citi.

The original Golf, and then the Citi were always aimed at enthusiasts, and I can personally have as much fun in a Citi today, as I did when I was rallying Golf Gti's "back in the day". NOTHING has changed about the dynamics of the car which remains eminently "chuckable" on the road, and capable of keeping up with many newer cars if driven by somebody who knows what he/she's doing. Something that CAN NOT be said about driving a Chana, Chery or Atoz.....

Now please allow the Citi to retire with some dignity...rather than compare it with cars that are only just keeping up with it, that were designed 30 years later.

And has, for the most part, vanished thanks to the market meltdown - there is indeed always a silver lining. ;)

I've seen 3 Geelys on the road, and they were all the same dull blue colour - probably the same car. :erm:
