The VW Up! Thread

such a pitty. I love my UP! Its not the most fun in JHB traffic but its a really lekker car with great fuel consumption.

Mine ha just over 100K on the clock. Only one thing bothering me is the noise when I release the clutch. VW told me about 40K ago that its nothing to worry about and Ive not had any issues, I just dont like it.

Farewell, little one: Volkswagen Up production to end in 2023

Volkswagen confirms it'll kill off the tiny city car later this year, making way for the incoming electric ID.1...

The 2023 farewells look set to continue, as Volkswagen confirms it'll stop building the Up very soon. Already we’re seeing the end of production for the likes of the Ford Fiesta, Rolls-Royce Dawn and all diesel Volvos this year, now the dinky but loveable Up is going the same way. Boo.

By the end of the year, the Up will be no more, following the cull of the electric e-Up. VW said: “Production of the up! and the e-up! at the Volkswagen plant in Bratislava will come to an end in the fourth quarter.”

VW is keen to emphasise that while "individual configuration of the vehicle will no longer be possible", there are plenty of brand-new Up models at local dealerships waiting to be scooped up.

The Up was originally introduced in 2011, and later won the ‘World Car of the Year’ in 2012. The Up GTI was so good, TG mag made it the 'Pocket Rocket of the Year' in 2017. It’s survived more than a decade and gallantly outlasted its VW Group stablemates, the Skoda Citigo and the SEAT Mii.

Is it like a rattling sound, until you press the clutch in again? I am pretty sure it is an issue with the clutch plate ... I will have mine looked at at some point. I have 70k on the clock now

Yes exactly that.

Volkswagen e-Up! production will cease by the end of the year

Earlier this year, Renault killed the small Zoe EV, and now Volkswagen is getting ready to do the same to its own small EV, the e-Up!. This has seen two generations across its decade-long production run, but its time is now finally Up! (pardon the easy pun).

The last e-Up! models will be manufactured at VW's plant in Bratislava, Slovakia, at some point before the end of this year. After that, there will be no more e-Up! (and the ICE model is being discontinued too).

VW says individual configurations for the e-Up! are no longer possible, but if you really, really want one, you can contact your local VW dealer for information about which pre-configured cars are still in stock.

Volkswagen brings back physical buttons for all new cars

Interior of ID 2All concept shows how Volkswagen is responding to criticism about over-reliance on touch controls

Future Volkswagen interiors will all draw inspiration from the ID 2all concept car and bring back physical buttons and controls.

This reverses a trend VW started with the current VW Golf and VW ID3 models that has proven unpopular with customers and prompted a complete about turn from the company and the way it approaches design.

VW’s interior designer Darius Watola said the concept “showed a new approach for all models” and was in response to “recent feedback from customers” about an alternative touchscreen-reliant path the company had gone on in recent years – one that VW CEO Thomas Schäfer had claimed "did a lot of damage" to the brand.

ouch!! Hope everyone is OK!!

My gardener managed to pick up something with the lawnmower also shattering the rear window on my UP!

It took PG glass 2 weeks to source a new window and when they did it took them ages to get the old window completely removed.

Some advice, make sure you are present when they fit the new window because they will have to stick the badge etc back and they will need supervision. Also make sure they are careful when removing the old window. Its 2 years later and I still have glass rolling around in my bootlid… drives me batshit some days.
