That's all well and good until you realize that 1/3 of the cost is a balloon payment. Not a cool move for an "affordable" car. I do like the Cross Up though. Saw one in person and was very impressed

VOLKSWAGEN REVEALS NEW BEETLE-INSPIRED ‘SPECIAL UP!’
Volkswagen has taken the wraps off a special edition Up! that it says was inspired by the Beetle “Special Bug” from 1982.
VW says the new Special Up! will be available in two colour combinations. The first, in the image of the Beetle, features paintwork in Black Pearl combined with 17-inch alloys in Sandstorm Yellow. Secondly, Volkswagen is offering the special model in Savanna Gold with black “polygon” alloy wheels.
In addition, the side-mirrors are finished in reflex silver or black and the flanks feature the obligatory “Special” decals.
Inside, this special edition comes with ambient lighting as standard, aluminium tread plates (bearing the word “Up!”), heated seats and black roof-liner. Although VW has yet to release images of the cabin, the automaker says the seat covers and dashboard trim are also available in Savanna Gold.
VW South Africa told us that this model “is not planned as yet” for the local market.

I will admit in terms of looks VW Up is better looking than Honda Brio. Most people here on my broadband say the don't like Honda Brio because of glass tailgate. But I never hear anyone complain about VW Up, Toyota Aygo, Citroën C1 and Peugeot 107 glass tailgate.

That tailgate on the up actually looks ok, it just looks butt ugly on Brio.

Expensive for such a small car I think on Brio is R2500. Everything on these new cars is expensive I damaged my driver side mirror, it cost me R2500 plus Honda labour R630 I paid R3200 in total.

That is bloody expensive. The 45 000 km service was just R1100.

Wow R1100 including labour if including labour that is cheap. I noticed the most expensive thing is labour, service parts are cheap. And the charge you 3 hours labour rate for work they do within 90 minutes.

Overall the Skoda Citigo hasn’t changed that much, and in reality it didn’t really need to. The interior changes make it a moderately more appealing place to be, and alongside its competent engine and creditable handling, there isn't much more you could ask of an entry-level city car.
However, it lacks the polish of the Volkswagen Up (which is only £55 more expensive in its mid-range Beats Edition attire) and also doesn't have the driving verve of more powerful versions of the Hyundai i10 and Kia Picanto.
That is not to say the Citigo isn’t worth considering: it’s a very good car. It just happens to be up against several other very good city cars - which means it's no longer a straight choice between the VW Group's trio of cars.

Skoda's city car named as the safest used first car by a panel of experts, beating its sibling models from Volkswagen and Seat
The safest used car young drivers can buy as their first set of wheels has been revealed.
The Skoda Citigo topped the table of the safest used cars for young people, followed closely by its sister cars, the Volkswagen Up, in second place, and the Seat Mii. The Toyota Yaris and Kia Rio completed the top five, in that order.
The award was devised by Co-op Insurance and Thatcham Research, with the intention of changing the attitudes of both young car buyers and their parents.
According to Co-op Insurance, price, insurance and running costs, the age and even the colour of the car are all more important considerations among young people than safety.
Given that the highest proportion of accidents involve drivers aged 17-24, Co-op Insurance and Thatcham hope to make safety a higher priority.
James Hillon, director of products at Co-op Insurance, said: “The fact that almost a third of young drivers have been involved in a road traffic incident in the first 6 months of driving highlights just how important it is to have a safe vehicle.
“The research gives us real insight into what young people are looking for when it comes to choosing their first car, and it’s concerning to find that so few prioritise safety.
“While we recognise that cost is an important factor for many, you cannot put a price on safety. We want to intercept and engage young drivers on the importance of putting safety over price when purchasing a first car. Later this year we’ll be hosting a road safety live stream to engage hundreds of 17-24-year-olds on the importance of safety when choosing a first car.”
Matthew Avery, director of research at Thatcham, added: “My advice to parents buying their child a first used car: do not buy the oldest or cheapest car you can find. There are plenty of good deals out there for newer second-hand cars that have a five-star Euro NCAP test rating and are fitted with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) as standard.
“AEB and ESC are second only to the seatbelt in terms of being life savers. They are critical in preventing the most common crashes that young drivers have.”
Judging for the award is based on a formula ranking devised by the Co-op Insurance and Thatcham Research. Cars had to be in the small car or city car categories, have a five-star Euro NCAP rating, CO2 emissions of 120g/km or less, be available to purchase on the second-hand market for £5.000 or less and have a low insurance group rating.
In the end, the Citigo pipped its fellow Volkswagen Group cars on account of its greater ubiquity and slightly lower price, although Avery confirmed that the difference between the three cars was marginal.
Co-op Insurance and Thatcham also revealed their overall Safest Used Car award winner at the same time. Back in 2012, Volkswagen revealed the Taigun show car, with a revised version of the diminutive SUV unveiled two years later as a “near-production” concept. But the tiny crossover didn’t ever see the light of day.
Now, according to a fresh report out of Germany, the development of a proper production version – apparently to be based on the Up! – has been given the green light.
AutoBild reports that VW has finally revived the idea, chiefly in a bid to take on cut-price competitors in the Brazilian market. The German publication adds that it will likely wear the T-Track badge, allowing it to fall in line with the naming convention kicked off by the soon-to-be-revealed T-Roc and upcoming T-Cross.
However, AutoBild also suggests that there will be quite a wait before the new model hits the market, speculating that it will launch only in 2020, exclusively in front-wheel-drive guise.

The T-Track will join new SUV models such as the forthcoming Golf-based T-Roc SUV and the Polo-based T-Cross.
The model is destined for the Brazilian market to rival the likes of the Dacia Duster and Ford Ecosport. It’s unclear at this stage whether the T-Track will be offered in other markets or if it will make it to South African shores.
