Jeez that was brutal as hell. For me it used to be the Pavement scene in American History X, the sound of the guys teeth scraping the pavement but this was on another level.

That was the most disturbing hour of TV I have ever seen. Even for TWD standards, that was crossing a line. That was more brutal than anything I've ever seen on American Horror Story, Ash vs Evil Dead, or Game of Thrones. And I'm including the AHS Hotel monster drillbit into the anus scene. I am scarred. it was brutal. lucky I watched some of the interviews and was expecting very bad stuff since the cast said it was going to be bad.

they played into the comic book well also. not a reader but I have heard that they took a lot from the comic and added some of their own twists.

yep, and i loved the way they teased with the flashes from rick as he was lying on the motorhome. You just never knew... even the flashes where he saw everyone getting smacked I was first like "o fukk" and then like "wait, didn't he say rick needed to think about what could be as well"
