Did you know Microsoft have almost 3000 repositories on Github?

You’re being either willfully ignorant or the concept of opening sourcing apps is just going over your head.

The fact is this is a core component to the windows ecosystem. In due time I am sure they will open more applications that suite your fancy. Maybe we’ll even see the actual compositing layer for windows.

Thing is all those things they opensourced are mostly development platforms which makes sense as they would like to extend their reach into the market.

Same goes for their contributions to the linux kernel etc, it's to provide interoperability with the opensource environment in order for them to stay relevant and not lose market share.

They're not doing this for altruistic reasons like opensource projects but to stay relevant and gain market share. It makes business sense and that is where it's driven from.
