The Witcher 3 Official thread

Super impressed so far as well, game looks fantastic on ultra.

Also running on ultra but with the hair stuff off (jeebus that chows your fps), shadows all the way down as I don't notice them fancy ones, all blurring disabled as I hate it, dof off don't like it either, AA is on it's not heavy. My little gtx 960 is soldiering on with smooth playable framerates, >45 in towns & mid 50s+ in the forests etc.

At some stage I wanna see if I can inject smaa with sweetfx & disable the ingame aa to compare them.

I have an HD7970 and I like AMD video cards, but this particular game is optimised for Nvidia hardware.

It runs fine on AMD cards except when you use hairworks as long as you avoid that you should be fine using a amd card.

Even nvidia cards take a big knock with hairworks in this game. Thing is it does not even look that great when compared to what they did in tomb raider. Just turn it off.

GTX980 on ultra, Hairworks on, foliage looks terrible to me, am I missing something or is everyone just turning a blind eye?, also why is it so damn windy 100% of the time  I feel like I'm gonna get spanked by a tree any minute.

Running fine with hairworks on (980), I read that if you disable the nvidia streamer service it can improve performance. Usually have dof and blur turned off myself, usually really annoying but haven't noticed it on witcher.

Yeah, I can't play like this. It's really distracting when it looks like you're in hurricane Katrina. I hope they release something to either let you tone it down or even disable it, because it's just too annoying.

Also, does anyone else feel like the game really wants you to use a controller? The controls are just so clumsy (eg Hold Shift for strong attacks is clearly aimed at holding a controller's shoulder button, etc).

It does look quite bad, yeah. Very pixelated in places, too.

Character models are sharp, though!

So you don't notice the bad foliage as much :p

The foilage is definitely not the best around compared to titles like FC4 for example.

EDIT: The wind is location based, think of the beginning of the game based in PE, when you go to Durbs there is way less wind. Just noticed this now in another area of the game.

I agree about the foliage it looks very flat, lets hope they release a patch to fix it. but besides for the foliage everything else looks pretty good and i am really loving the game so far, just spent hours last night exploring finding hidden treasures and bandit camps and had a blast!

also its so much better with a controller!!

G2A sent me two codes for the game just after 7. Their apologetic email mentioned that the expansion pass codes will be sent at a later date, before the release of the first of the paid DLC's. I'm just confirming that fact with their support before selling the spare code.

Pm me when you decide what you're doing with the key.

Played about 2 hours last night, some initial impressions:

- DA:I's character control felt better, although I probably still need to get used to Witcher's style (haven't played 1 or 2).
- Character models look great. Very smoothly designed and looks great up close.
- Writing and dialogue feels very natural and fits well. Less contrived than many RPGs.
- Fighting feels great, a very weighty experience. Feels like your sword is actually connecting to something rather than just animations that clash.
- Atmosphere is great, the game uses light very well to create a mood. Colours are quite saturated, though.
- Foliage looks crud.

Pity about the foliage, I seem to remember Witcher 2's looking pretty good - what detail did you have to run it on to get good frame rates?

I'm mostly on high (at 1920x1080), with some things on medium. All the fancy stuff are still on, though - motion blur, AA etc.

Definitely playable like this, but will tweak a bit to get the best compromise.

So after trying not to play until the weekend, I fired this puppy up for 30 mins or so, just to see what it was like.
My specs are in my signature, but I have a R9280X and an i5 4570. Running in 2560x1440, with most settings on high, AA on SSAO, water, world detail and one other I forget on Ultra, with hairworks on everything that has them, not just Geralt.

I definitely get noticable FPS drops in the in-game cutscenes, but gameplay seems perfect for now. I have only gotten as far as the Tavern section (did the tutorials to familiarise myself again)... I'll post more once I've ventured further out, but hope it stays the same as it is now.

I can't even get the thing working :( Am I being dof here.

Purchased a physical copy. Installed game. Then when running it it says gog client installed. This will auto update your game etc etc or I can manually install 1.0.1 patch. Downloaded patch manually and installed. Then tried to run game and it keeps taking me back to the gog client notice.

Reinstalled again and this time in gog going to the options I download the patch but it doesn't seem to install. Running the game brings up the gog notice again about your can use gog client to auto update etc or you can install the patch manually.

:wtf:
