Hey guys,

I hope you're all enjoying your Monday.

In a few months I'll have a PC capable of running The Witcher 3 smoothly.

My Question:

Can I play & finish The Witcher 1 & 2 without worrying about Witcher 3 storywise?

I don't want to finish 1 & 2, and then find out the story continues in 3 and I have to wait until I get a better PC to play it. Isn't The Witcher 3 like a standalone storywise? Meaning The Witcher 2 doesn't follow into Witcher 3?

Apparently you can play it without having finished 1 and 2. I had the same query when the game came out.

You'll see some characters in 3 that you previously encountered in number 2 (I never played 1) but am fairly certain you can still get a lot of enjoyment out of Witcher 3 without having played the other 2.

I started Witcher 3 recently, am about 80 hours in. Didn't play 1 and 2, and I don't think it has a big impact on the story. There is one quest in the early stages where you can choose what happened in the first 2 games, so if you want to be specific look up the options before you get there. But apparently it only has a minor impact in some dialogues, no real difference to the game. As far as I know the stories are independent, although the characters and previous events do carry on through the games. So you can play 1 and 2 now, I don't think you will feel the need to immediately carry on with 3 to continue the story.

I disagree

I recommend playing the first two games first as it is a ongoing story and yes, it does affect your decisions in 3
There are a lot of characters that make a return in 3 who were in the previous games. Some important plot decisions involve these characters, so not having played the first 2 will affect your experience.

That said, if you do not care about the main story arc, you are good to go.

I played the first two before playing 3. It's a continued story and you'll gain the full experience only if you play all especially if you care about the story. The first one is pretty old though and the graphics has aged. If you're into retro gaming then it isn't an issue however.

I suggest playing the first two and just sticking to the main quest if you just want the background.

It's sort of similar to Mass Effect where the 2nd and 3rd games build on the story of the first. You always want to play the first two before the 3rd.

Witcher 1 and 2 is great. Play it.
t. contraversial opinion.

I tried 1, looks like dog ****. You can't even jump. Played 2, looks better. Felt good, still can't jump though. You have to walk up to ledges to climb them and that's only specific ledges.

So you don't play games where you can't jump? great.

Yes Witcher 2 does affect your story line in Witcher 3! When I started my play through they've recognized that I played Witcher 2 and it will affect my story due to the decisions I have made in Witcher 2.

I would say finish Witcher 1 & 2 for the full story of Geralt of Rivia!

I actually enjoyed the style of the first Witcher. . . .

And the graphics are far from 'dog crap'
You must not have played many games........

He should maybe avoid this thread and play Tomb Raider since jumping is his main focus in a game.

He's going to bitch about the graphics.

I guess it ain't too bad for its age.

BTW: I stopped playing Guild Wars 1 because of the inability to jump. I'm a jumping-in-games-lover. What can I say?
