The world's most popular programming languages

any source of which language is good for?

ok, we need a recap of how this usually goes down. Quote to make it easier.

IIRC, it usually goes like this:

Java is the best
Nah, on borrowed time. C# is better
Java is cross platform!
So is C# these days!
Python is the greatest
Guys, what language should I learn?
Python ^
Java
You should really learn C and C++ to teach you the fundamentals
No, don't worry about the language. Focus on your studies, get a good grasp on OO principles and SOLID. Language is just syntax
Yeah, no...Python
Hey guys, I see they use Delphi in schools?!
Viva ANC! Another cadre scoring on IDE costs
In my day it was Java
PHP is Live!
Node!
Golang, node is for pussies
SOLID will only get you so far, what you need is to focus on [some comp sci wanker's name] principles. Look at this sample code I wrote and this essay to supplement it. /spins off into another thread
@cguy : you're talking crap
Uh-uh /spins off into academic discussion with latin words and ****
South Africa is so far behind international trends, in Europe they use Angular.
That's not a language
Javascript, they use Javascript. Can't wait to leave and go use Javascript
Then ****ing leave! #ImStaying

Guys..what language pays the most?

More employment opportunities.

One has to be careful about competition due to oversupply of skills though. Many of the most common software engineering jobs are relatively poorly paid because of this.

Well yes, you don't use that data in a vacuum. You balance it with skills availability.... like you did when you decided IT would be a good avenue in the first place. Another factor is... 'is this what I want to be doing'.... etc.
The only thing I considered was global warming. :p

In all seriousness though, it is so easy for people to get the wrong idea of what career move to make, since it is so easy to see demand (adverts, what one’s friends are doing, etc.), while a meaningful measure of supply is so much harder to come by. The best indicator is pay, which is somewhat opaque itself, and very seldom tied to a programming language.

A bit like asking which cad software to leart to become an architect?

Sap is one of those things everyone talks about but no-one actaully does.

It's not what you do, it's who you do.
