The Xperia X1 Thread

Well why should you have to do that? ?? I would say its crap that you have to take it there in the first place.
Why cant they just give you a phone that works in the first place?

Because Vodacom are a bunch of *****holes. They load their vodafone firmware on and you can't update the phones firmware until they (weeks to months later) have updated their firmware. I never had any issues with my Pseries phones after I had the firmware flashed to original SE. Not SE's fault that vodacom holds back the firmware.

You do know that Piesang used a MTN phone with original SE software.

I agree. Why do we have to run around to get the phone to work properly when it should be working in the first place?

My N96 is running perfectly OBF.

Well thats the whole thing. Now you have to do this and that for it all to work. In reallity you should get the phone. Preloaded with all the correct software and settings. You should only insert your sim and and load your contacts and everything should work. Look I got nothing against any Cell company but really that is how it should be. 2 years ago I was very upset with HTC S710 coz I could not use the Excel and word functions. I then phoned Leaf and was told that you have to send your self a blank email with a attached excel or word doc. That sux really. Why cant you just get it like it should be, just like they advertise it on tv. Now you have to do this and that for it all to actually work.
Are we is SA not just getting all the reject phones from other countries????

Only if you get them from Vodacom/vodafone. I had the same experience with my P990 and debranding saved me a lot of grief. Never get a phone from them again (not to mention why would you pay so much more than MTN for a crippled phone in the first place?) As for HTC they're notorious for false advertising lest we forget the GPS advertisments and the worthless leaf locate. It's great they they made the X1 but SE are the ones selling and providing support for it.

I dont understand how they could give support for a branded phone when the software is up to $hit after that. Plus making their name arse in public by doing so. They should rather then just stick to origional software. But as Piesang had that on his phone it still was not good enough from SE.

i debranded with sony ericsson english generic. i welcome any vodashop teckie to challenge me that my phone was not flashed my vodacom. they will most likely put the same enlish generic on. my flash was not a custom job.

i was envolved in quite a legal thing with vodacom before when i used an mtn sim in a vodaphone phone and they tried to throw the warranty void card at me. in the end we found that only the extended vodacom warranty was void but not the one year manufacturer warranty

and the debrand of a WM phone is so simple. just get into bootloader and load normal SE firmware. how they gonna track anything illegal thru that? especially seeing as they are doing it themselves

The only way they will notice that you flashed your phone with custom firmware, or any firmware other than what they put on, is when your phone crash and you can't start it up again. Meening that you will have to take it to them without being able to flash the phone with the original firmware yourself.

Anyway you cant blame Vodacom.... SE lets them do that... its SE 's fault.

You absolutely can blame Vodacom, all manufacturers allow providers to change a phone's firmware, in the case of Vodafone they just buy the devices from*SE and do their own thing with the software, something most providers opt not to do. You can't blame SE for what others do with their phones and if you do then why do units from MTN and Cell C not have these limitations? If providers mess around with the phones then it's the providers fault and the customer's for choosing to go with those providers (unless they really didn't know).

I agree it’s the customers fault if they knew about it. For SE to let providers do their thing on their software I do not agree with that at all. SE/Nokia/Samsung or who ever should not allow it for that matter. That’s why they are to blame! The Mobile Manufacturer should never ever allow this to happen in the first place. If you Voda/MTN/Cellc/Virgin for that matter and you get a chance to brand the phone as you can you would also do it as its advertising for free.

Sorry, anyone know where I can find a *cough* free *cough* copy of SPB Mobile shell?

See you playing with fire again.... Now you changing this and changing that. Why does it not work from the start?
