The Xperia X1 Thread

I'm sure that they can help in certain cases. I might have just been unlucky with the guy I got on the line.

I respect that this is the X1 thread but I feel people who have been persuaded to go for the N96 by a certain someone should see this first

N96 main disadvantages:

* Inadequate battery life
* No camera lens protection
* The @$$#% N81-inspired design
* No office document editing out of the box
* Doesn't charge via the USB port
* Dreadful camera key
* Cheap looking keypad

"N"joy your N96 while I "Xperience" my X1
Joy is something that you feel when you are happy like after a long days work while an experience is something you remember forever like love

Has anyone bought a screen protecttor or anything for their X1? any recommendations ?

Feedback on reception

Dear X1 owners. Please could you comment on the reception compared to your previous phones. I read in some of the reviews that this phone had some issues with poor reception where other phones were okay in the same geographical location, and today was told by a vodashop employee that they have had lots of negative feedback related to reception. In all other respects this phone meets my requirements, but would hate to have a bells and whistles cell phone that cannot get receptions or hold a call while driving.

Thanks for the feedback.

I've the phone a two weeks now and I've only had one call dropped. No break up or anything like that. Very Happy:D

IMO vodacom is the problem...
My Dad has one MTN contract and one Vodacom contract and he never used the Vodacom one and he only uses it cause he has it through the business and his calls are forever getting dropped now. He has an HTC S710 and never had call drops with the MTN sim

Well they have been dropping the ball lately.
I have other friends with signal problems too ?
The rip off they offering on the X1 ?
Maybe it had to do with vodacoms recent partnership with vodafone ?
Thats just my thoughts,maybe I just a MTN fanboy

You better have the MTN or flashed vodacom X1 or you won't get the updates. Vodacom firmware won't allow you to update to SE's latest.

i have a X1 from MTN so i should be fine, i hope so because not getting the updates would suck. How can vodacom not let you get the updates, that is shocking!! Surely you have a right to keep your phone upto date, how can they decide??

Update

Garmin XT mobile works a treat on the X1. Looks exactly like the normal Garnin GPS. I have used Tomtom before on my P990i so its my first experience of the Garmin Mobile setup.

Now if someone knows whether Tracks 4 Africa works on Garmin Mobile XT I would be much obliged if they could let me know.

Thanks Shake and Bake:
Tweaks and modding

We now come to one of our favorite parts of the review - the Tweaks and Modding chapter. PocketPCs have long been enjoying custom modding, patching and tweaking. Luckily for the XPERIA X1 it quickly earned itself a large number of fans that are constantly on the lookout for a new twist to their gear.

The first and probably most significant change you can make to your XPERIA X1's user interface is borrowing the HTC TouchFLO 3D. Yeah - you can have a fully functional TouchFLO 3D UI on your XPERIA X1 in a matter of minutes. All you have to do is install a cab file - simple as that. You can find more information on the topic right here.

I do warn you that some of the touchflo 3d cab files seem to make the X1 very unstable and the phone may freeze a lot.

ive been using the touchflo UI for about 2 weeks now and it works very very well. any new installers should avoid early builds of the touchflo. im using the manila version and its very stable.
can anyone advise on ram usage? with touchflo activated the usage is a 35% and with it off it runs at 29%. is that normal figures? or is my x1 a bit memory heavy? i only saying this because im noticing a slow down in resposiveness occasionally, and thats on light application usage eg. messaging or web access...
