OK so I found a tool called Pocket Remote Sound
http://www.rgbaker.demon.co.uk/PocketRemoteSound4.htm
It does exactly what I want it to do-stream pc music to phone....one catch, its not free
I have Windows media encoder and stream music to other PC's in the house by using the OPen URL command on WMP, but for some reason it wn't work on my WM phone....

Any ideas ?

ok tsponge i think we gonna have to slow you down a bit... :)

posting the same stuff in like 3 different threads. ????

Is it just me or does the Sony Ericsson panels take like forever to load?

My phone becomes completely unresponsive for 34 seconds (yep, I timed it) after I activate any of the two Sony Ericsson panels.

It seems that the panel is scanning my outlook db during that time to update its calendar section. Admittedly I have a lot of outlook data but hey...

They could have at least created a separate thread for scanning the db so that phone doesn't turn into a brick for half a minute?

Sorry for the "parroting"

Na mine takes like +-4 sec plofstof

Regarding Your Omnia
1. I notice it has no navigation buttons, only the track pad. Does this not make it hard to navigate the GUI when driving ETC. Also you prob have to lock the phone when you it in your pocket so the material doesn't rub against it?
2. It has a slightly larger screen, more power hungry and smaller battery with inferior technology. What is the bat life like in comparison to The X1? to give you something to compare to; my bat lasts 3 full days with about 5 hours mxit a day and music at school for about 5 hours a day. use GPS now and then and internet browsing at break (30-40 min a day) then listen to music at night for +-2 hours. all this while doing the usuals like SMS's, games and playing around, take some pictures too and am always sending/recieving files via Bt. I turn the "phone" function off at school and have 3g disabled. Use the schools WIFi for browsing lol. After 3 days my bat on about 20%. not bad with all of the above done.
3. How does the TouchWiz UI compare with X panels and Touchflo3D? I see lots of ppl porting X panels and TF3D to their WINMO phones. Why not with TouchWiz UI?
4. Does samsung use standard input ports for DATA, audio (miniUSB, 3.5mm) or the samsung Proprietary ports
5. The omnia does not support QuickGPS and uses a different anntenna to that of the X1/Touch Pro etc. what is the perormance like ?
6. what are the effects of havinf the lower screen res compared to any other winmo device ?
7.I don't see a stylus slot on any of the pictures I'ver seen. Does it have one ?
8.What are the effects of not having a dedicated graphics chip ?
9. I hear the microSD card is not hot swappable. Is this true ?

Hope to hear from you soon !

Do I really have time for all this???

Mmmm, let me see.

1. The "Track Pad" works excellent but I use my finger most of the time. I press the Call End button on my Omnia to activate the screen. So no "rubbing" problems.
2. I get 3 days. I'm a business user. I don't have time to Mxit and play games etc on my phone. I use my Omnia as a GPS in the car no matter where I go. Even if I know the places. At least it warns me about speed cameras etc... That is the good thing about having a Legal copy of Garmin XT on your phone. I use wifi at least 8hours a day. And then I make a few calls on it. The N96 is still my Primary Phone.
3. The TouchWiz IMO is more configurable. I will never use TouchFLO3D on my Omnia and definately not the Panels either.
4. The USB port is a Samsung design. It also have a 3.5mm converter that plugs into the USB port. So now problem there.
5. The GPS is quick enough. Indoors and outdoors. I run Garmin and a few seconds later I have a GPS lock.
6. The Lower Res doesn't have any impact on my usage. Like I've said before, I've used the X1 and I didn't even notice that bigger res.
7. It doesn't have a slot for the stylus. You can attach it to the phone with a string. Not ideal but I got used to it.
8. I don't know really. I've watched movies on my Omnia without any problems at all. You don't get proper 3D apps for WM anyway.
9. Why would I want to take out the SD card?

The Omnia's CPU is 100mhz faster than the one in the Xperia and I must say you can see the difference. The Omnia is much more responsive than the X1.

The TV-Out is awesome. A pity that the X1 lacks that.

Cool!
Tnx for the speedy response !
I must say I havent noticed lag on the X1 so I cannot see it getting more responsive, but thats me.

I can see Tv-OUt being a problem for some but mnot for me. I also hear that XDA is developing a driver for the X1 for TV-out-as it uses the same same chipset as the Touch HD. So that could be a possibility...

I must say, Its nice to see the top manufactures coming to the table and offering their best. And the new comers ( samsung, SE) are def spicing things up and i see a bright future for WINMO!

hey you need to rephrase that piesang.... " the omnia is faster THAN YOUR PREVIOUS X1s" which were all faulty. you comparing a working omnia with a broken x1 ;)

wow tsponge is really keeping you busy and on your toes lol

im tired of comparing phones now....

someone please start a new topic.

Omnia 624mhz vs Xperia 528mhz

Oh please.

The X1 has a Qualcomm processor while the Omnia has a Marvell processor. There are major architecture differences. Surely you know it's not all about Mhz ratings?

Hey...

Getting my X1 on Sunday... Honestly, cant wait...been tracking this phone since it was launched... just pity I had to wait so long for an upgrade...

Wanted to ask... sorry if its already been posted, but this will be my 1st phone with Windows Mobile... Im kind of dreading it... but from all the reviews i have seen, its the best Windows Mobile phone out... so far anyway... Anyone care to comment on that?

Plus... since you guys have had your phones for while now, what do you reckon is the 1st thing I do with it (besides replace it with an Nokia piesang)...

Also, I want to take advantage of the GPS... best ways? use WayFinder? Does it have SA maps? Pretty new at the whole "GPS on a cell phone" thingy...

Thanks

Piesang should have enough info for you on the X1...lol

Hey nickza,

Glad to here you are joining us happy SEX1 users. The first thing i would do whe you get your phone is install 2 absolutley brilliant applications:

1.) Batti 2.4 (http://www.xperiax1.net/forum/downloads.php?do=file&id=9)
2.) MyMobileR (http://www.xperiax1.net/forum/downloads.php?do=file&id=12)

The first is a really nice battery monitoring utility, while the second is basically a program that completely puts the phone interface on your computer when plugged in and is really usefull when you are sitting at your desk.

As for the GPS software I am not too familiar with it and will leave somebody else to help you with that one ;)

p.s. I was also dreading the shift to win mobile as i have always used symbian phones like the SE P990, P910, P900, P800, however I really am happy with win mobile as it is responsive and fairly easy to use if you use a windows based pc. Takes a little bit of time to adjust to the new interface, but once you have it really is a pleasure to use.

read the x1 tips thread about how to install garmin or tom tom

If you looking to use the GPS features then just follow kvi instructions, it is truly awesome having garmin mobile on your device. as for your win mobile fears, i was also a newbie to win mobile and i must admit i am absolutely loving it. the phone is quick and responsive through the menus it is a dream.

to put the cherry on top you can put any app you want on it. truly customize it to your liking.

you wont be disappointed :D

Hey

Thanks for the advice... been loving it... just dreading the next 9 hours i cant use it (initial install)... but i did play around with it with the pre charged battery...

Funny enough, i just downloaded that software suggested, installed the battery one, not the pc remote... yet.

In connection with the GPS... (will look at tips thread)... i know GPS is a direct link to satelite, and therefore no GPRS/3g/hsdpa charges.... does this apply with the X1? Dont want to use it if its gonna run up my data bill...

Also, how do you guys keep track of your data usage? Just a bit worried about that... i know the phone has ALOT of internet apps... like dashwire.. which i installed, dont want dashwire uploading a poo load of videos and images when i am not in wifi area... know what i mean?

Thanks again...
