so all those ships floating around the ocean is irrelevant to you then, so where do you expect oil to be in a month? $40 or $25?

Wasn't talking about all those ships, was talking about the trend in the price.

excess supply, drop in the price to reach equilibrium

that is basic economics

oil has fallen $1 since this morning by the way

Still $0.27 up from where it started the day though.

I'm a n00b when it comes to these things. Why has the Rand done so well today? Is it due to the interest rate hike?

My understanding is that the US Fed didn't raise rates and the money can flow to riskier developing markets because of the better returns?

When the US does raise rates, the money will flow back there as it's safer. Unless the world economy picks up again and resources recover that is.

Currently R15.90 to the USD.

Just shows you how much thumb sucking goes on here. :p

Of course it is thumb sucking. There is nothing else that can be done about financial markets. Be weary of anyone who claims otherwise.

15.88 at the moment, half way to 15.77 ;)

On its way to R15.50..

And the US side they realizing that growth has been linked to shale oil, oil price levels = shale oil investment stop, tech sector looking like a minor bubble, eco my not as strong AND they need emerging markets to stand ground so no interest hikes for a while.. I reckon the minor bubble while shake things up enough maybe just about summer time.

SA side finance speech will be key. I reckon if it's the usual with tight budget restraints and the ANC unhappy we can expect Rand to strengthen slightly more. Also if ANC loses big metro and let's it slide, might drop even more
