The ZAR Exchange Rate Thread

Oh Gawd, and this is just when Brent Crude is coming down as well, here I was looking forward to a drop in fuel price next month and it will probably go UP again!! :(

Well it's going to make all of the exporters happy, and the rest of us poor....:(

If you want to know how many Rand it takes to get a US dollar you're looking at the wrong rate. Right now the Rand sell rate tt/wire is R7.41. In SA the media typically quote the Buy Rate, which is how many Rand you get when you exchange dollars for Rand (ie buy Rand).

Oh my word . . . The Aus dollar is now at almost 7.50 Rand ! ! ! What have the idiots done this time around? The Rand has been devalued by almost 10% overnight. I hope this is some electronic glitch or something.

Yup, that's what I am after. ;)

Uh, yeah we know that. It's been mentioned several times in this thread already.
I was just comparing the two directly in terms of monetary strength.
(And there are other agencies you can use to sell and buy that come closer to the actual real value of the currency! ;))

More than likely with a corresponding rise in the cost of a barrel of oil! :(

And I already saw headlines of the price of fuel going up again. Man, it's really becoming expensive to live in SA, even on a pretty good salary.

Bleksem!!!

I'm not gonna buy anything overseas soon.

Well the Rand's fundamentals are fine. I think the ZAR will strengthen again in about two months or so. this being said I am by no means a huge economist and thus will not be willing to bet my house on that :p:D

The problem is the USD and the EUR are competing to be the worlds worst "big" currency atm and that is making people jumpy. Jumpy people is bad for ZAR strength in general.

:) I am loving it! I hope the Euro also continues to plummet so the dollar rises against the Rand. If only they could peg the dollar to $10 usd/rand business for me would be amazing to say the least! I could finally rival the UK companies, imagine those guys are enjoying R11/rand.

Perhaps I made a wise choice sticking with the dollar all this time(really no choice)

I want to use the Pound(not really) or Singapore Dollars/Hong Kong Dollars as my #2 alternative still but to actually drop the Euro when 70% of Europe customers use it is crazy at this point :(

Oh well, here is to hoping the dollar reaches $10/rand before the end of the year!

*Lights a joint*
