I'm a curious guy and would like to know what Theme everyone else is using on their Ubuntu installation and also which Compiz effects are your favourites.

I'm using the Raptor theme which I customized a bit - I'm using Raptor v9.7.1 for my controls and Window border. For icons I'm using Nuvola and I'm using the orange ComixCursors-Large. As for fonts I'm using Sawasdee 9 Bold for the majority of my desktop except the window title and fixed width font, which I'm using Monospace for.

For Compiz, I've always been a fan of the Desktop wall (4 x 2), but I'm currently using Cube (which just looks cooler, but is less functional). I set Right/Left edge click to switch viewports and use Expo by BottomRightCorner edge click. I use a bunch of different effects for windows and some Alpha effects on menus.

EDIT: Here is a link to my album, 2 of the screenshots from my old install of Jaunty and 1 new one from Karmic. http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/album.php?albumid=603

I'm also using Cairo-Dock and have removed the bottom panel completely. In the top panel I just use CPU frequency scaling and the Sensors-applet to show fan speeds and the temps of my System, CPU cores and hard drives.

If anybody has a favourite little tweak, post it so I can check it out. I always love experimenting with new little tweaks.

I am not on Ubuntu per say, actually on OpenSUSE, but here is a screenshot:

Window Border: Sonar (OpenSUSE default, I just changed it from green to dark blue)
Icon Theme: Win2Vista (yeah yeah i know but it looks good)
GTK Theme: Nimbus-Vistalooks

If I am in the mood to turn on Compiz:
Emerald Theme: Wombat Black or Windows Vista Aero Black

I love it, it's what make's ubuntu different from the ordinary blue and blacks. :p

I have not yet loaded Karmic...still on Linux Mint 7. I am hoping my Karmic dvd will be waiting in post box either tomorrow or Saturday. Will load it and see what I think of the default theme. I might just leave it as is this time. Can get exhausting changing themes every day lol.

You heathen you :D
You're going to be pleasantly surprised, it's a very slick release imo!

:D

I know. I am very excited. Was planning on waiting for Linux Mint 8, but the hype got the better of me. I will just have to install the media playback manually. I am very very VERY excited I have to admit :D

Manual install is no problem at all, libdvdcs something and w32codecs is all you really need for full media playback ++ :)

Besides for the media codecs what else is supplied in mint that normal install lacks? Just out of curiosities sake?

U need things still like libdvdread , libdvdnav also to play DVD's properly. Then some codecs to play avi etc...not sure if that is included with the w32codecs? Java and flash you also have to manually install in Ubuntu whereas with Mint it works out of the box. Thats it I think hehe. I dont really mind...I just hate using up bandwidt for these downloads hehe.

Yes I understand about the bandwidth issue, especially if you're not with afrihost yet :) Although in all honesty the 2 codecs combined were I think less than 20mb's or so.

So far the only codecs I have installed are the 2 I mentioned above, nothing else. For me I can watch dvd's and navigate the menus no problem so perhaps those other codecs you mention are bundled into the install!
I can play flv files and browse youtube with no hassles, avi, rm etc are also played without hassles. Also I noticed you don't have to add drives to fstab to be permanently mounted anymore, 'it all just works' !!!
Also did'nt need to install ntfs3g to browse my external drives, they also 'just work'. In a way it's kinda irksome as there's not much hacking to be done with this release, takes most of the fun out of setting up a new distro exactly the way you want it. There's just no excuse for the newbies anymore, Linux Ubuntu is as easy as ever ++ :)
