My friend was having probs with his rig not booting up and tried to install a new CPU.
Now he asked me to inspect the system as it had the booting prob.
So I took the system, cleaned the CPU and CPU cooler, and on further inspection I found thermal paste smeared in places were it wasn't supposed.
You guys wouldn't guess where he smeared it... None other than the socket pins.
So I'm asking how the heck I'm going to clean up in between the pins on a 775 socket.

Perhaps just leave it?? I dont think it conducts electricity so it should not short....

If it's "hard" paste, then use a stiff bristle paint brush - maybe use rubbing alcohol and a soft toothbrush? Do a small area at a time and use the alcohol sparingly...

if its ceramic **** then it shudnt hav damaged it, but the compounds that contain silver will definitly fuxxor his boxxor

lolxxorzz nub ftl

ok so now all that is left for you to do is to list the specs of the components he fuxxored so that i have a clear indication of how loud i have to say OMFG

lol- gotta love that lovely conductive silver.... don't these people read the instructions: A BLOB THE SIZE OF A RICE GRAIN. And yes, that silver paste conducts 'lectricity real good...

I'd be pouring acetone on that there mobo, and blowing big time with some serious compressed air.

Just flush it with lots of benzine/ethanol. AS5 dissolves relatively easily in it :)

ah yes, acetone evaporates quick, i use it to clean cpu/heatsinks

Asus Maximus II Formula with a Q9400.

Thought it was thermal conductive like it says on the site,

Not Electrically Conductive:
Arctic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity.
(While much safer than electrically conductive silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver 5 should be kept away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. While it is not electrically conductive, the compound is very slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridges two close-proximity electrical paths.)

I guess you have passed on

it's just that i fail 2 understand how someone who would even be remotely interested in spending money on those particular components could be so . . . naive? for lack of a better word.
