It's because Android phones are so fragmented. With Apple you get to design for generally 2 reference sizes, 1 headphone standard, 1 charging standard and so on; and they frequently carry over a single design for 2 generations and don't chop and change features and button placements. With Android you will have a handful of phones at the high end that support wireless charging and a huge raft of lower end phones that don't.

Lies. I can confirm. Took my 3 weeks to be bored and frustrated enough to take a 4k loss to move back to android.

Hm it took me about 7 months to be frustrated enough with Android that I moved back to Apple. It takes a while to get settled into an OS one way or another and figure out their quirks. I'm not sure you can do justice to it in 3 weeks.

You can't overlook that Apple have sold something like 1.2Bn iPhones in the last 10 years... Thats one tasty target market for devs as well as OEMs.

Like I said, Apple is a US market predominantly... It makes sense for those numbers to have taken off over the last 10 years, while keeping their fan base loyal. Most people are still under the impression that Apple products just work, it doesn't always.

Apple has done one thing right, and that is to get into the heads of their loyal followers, and credit to them as it works. But if you spew nonsense regularly, about how great your device is of its features being better than most others, then you will clearly make those sales happen.

But like I say, to each their own, because for the price of some of these devices, some of them are not worth the money they are asking. The questions always pop up here at work, what are your reasons for wanting a specific device. Most cannot answer that, and strangely, most say it's mostly for whatsapp and Facebook.

So, is it worth your money to go for the latest phones, if you are not a power user or will never use the features? The debate around this is fascinating, and I think either Marques Brownlee or Joshua Vergara at one point alluded to something similar.

At MWC last year, the amount of OEMs showing off new devices were not as much as before, as most said that they are still trying to figure out what to do next, that will Edge them ahead of the competition.

Similarly with AR - other phones have been messing around with it for a while now, but the implementation they demoed at the stage show looks far ahead of other attempts. Loyalty needs to be earned, which Apple have done spectacularly well.

They had to release an update back in the day, to fix their antennae issue. Then there was bendgate and a few other things. They have had problems. Fact is Fanie, Google has much more issues, because much more OEMs run their software.

None of those things have been very significant, and all ameliorated by their superb customer services. It's all the infrastructure and cross-product integration that they've been able to build due to having one single platform, that nobody else can match. Only Samsung comes close at the moment, and pretty much everyone knows that if Samsung releases a 'feature' in their phones, it's going to be experimental at best and downright broken at worst.

You missing the point, that they have had their issues. You can sweep it under the carpet if you want, but go online and read of various complaints within IOS as well. Like I said, you have what, a few devices that run iOS compared to millions with different hardware running Android. It's much more noticeable the issues on the Android side, because of the amount of devices running it.

I'm not missing the point. My response is that compared to the overwhelming consistency and stability that most people experience over time, it's outweighed and people generally feel with good reason that they can trust Apple phones. If there's a teething issue with a phone at launch, it will tend to get ironed out and you can always go back to Apple stores to get it sorted out. You've pointed to a very minor handful of moments in 10 years of iPhones. Most people don't remember bendgate, but they do remember getting on a plane last year and being told that if they were carrying a Note7 they'd have to get rid of it.

What about them? There's a huge number of OEMs out there; which ones do people 'feel' that they can trust? Sony? Google Pixel? Huawei? LG? Xiaomi? None of them have the built infrastructure of Apple, none offer the same kind of integration, software update, personality, and feature set of Apple. Sure I could get an LG V30 but on the other hand I had a miserable experience with my G3, my sister in law hates her G4 and the G5 was a disaster. The XZ Premium looks like fun but who knows about it? On one hand, there's a single mega-brand that people know and trust, and on the other hand there's a vast number of alternatives that all have their own issues.

I had an S3 and it was wireless charging capable, but I couldn't find one when I wanted. I went to Samsung in Vodaworld, as they had a perfect mold fit for my original Galaxy S, but they didn't even have the wireless mats. I am pretty sure we will see the wireless charging accessories pop up when the iPhone 8 and X arrive here, and it will be available in more than just the iStore. How many S3/4/5/6/7/8 users do you know that use wireless charging? I don't know any. But I am sure it will become standard after the iPhone X arrives. There is no point in bringing out a feature if it isn't supported.

I don't know how it will get better after 3 weeks when my Google Photos didn't want to auto sync to the cloud (for example).

I noticed that bug lately, it's really annoying. Kind of tend to think it's Google's fault though, because it used to work fine. The settings has a background app refresh but for whatever reason it chooses to ignore it.

And it's literally the most boring phone ever. It's like, it's a phone, and it's a phone, and yeh, it's a phone, and somehow I feel that it's only a phone.

The one really interesting area that Android has now that iOS doesn't is VR. I had a lot of fun messing around with the Gear VR and all the tools. But like all things on Android, you really have to want to dig into it and get a bit developer-y to make it work. And the graphics look like ass, straight up. Apart from that, what's so interesting on Android? Actually for me I'm not so stuck on iOS if it wasn't for the outright superiority of its audio experience - audiobooks, recorded messages, music collections, podcasts and so on - syncing, working properly with headphone inline controls, the desktop iTunes library management, streaming services. It's all so much better.

Sure, they have been around and you can pick them up online and in some shops. But when I browse through shops in the mall I don't really see them in places like Incredible (they do have in bigger malls) etc. where the majority of people will buy.
