Things that irritate you - Part 4

Not really, you're the one who went on about how you can get a cash price discount for cars, when that is maybe true for second hand. It is not true for new cars, the discount is generally on financed cars.
The topic was in fact the meaning of 'discount' and whether what I got was 'discount'. You guys said it is not. Nothing to do with new or old cars. Focus friend!

You still technically didn't get a discount, you just got them to waive additional fees.

People that demand thanks really piss me off.

The other day I stopped at an intersection waiting to turn into a 4 lane road.
The traffic had backed up all the way from the previous intersection, luckily someone had not blocked the intersection and left a gap for me to turn into the road, and rightfully so because there were yellow markings on the road showing that it should be kept open.
So I squeeze past the cars and turn into the far lane double checking all the blind spots for cars, as i go past I hear aggressive hooting. I got a bit of a fright thinking I had missed a car and almost had an accident - but then I look behind me and there are no cars.... so I carry on and this woman pulls up next to me waving her arms like I must pull over.
Still very confused I open my window, just to ask what the problem is.
She just shouts "Say thank you !!!" "Just say thank you"
In my haste to navigate the road I had neglected to thank this heroic driver for leaving a gap as legally required.

My fok marilieze, get a grip. I thank when I can but be sure, there is no obligation to thank people for obeying the law.

Thats when you respond "Ok ma'am, Thank you for following the law and not blocking the intersection as you are legally required to do".

I probably should have.

Instead I was actually really rude. Embarrassingly so. People shouting at me in traffic just turns me into a monster.

I still do thank people for letting me in. Its a nice thing to do.

Oh no, being rude is also a perfectly acceptable response to someone else being a 'tard and thinking they deserve something that they don't.

Sounds like a fun day out on the roads.

We had a reverse experience. Driving along merrily when this little Mini Cooper keeps creeping into our lane. At first I thought it was just a once-off, but then realise this guy is doing it continuously. I hoot, just in case he didn't notice me and all the other vehicles in our lane.

My wife (not having a great morning) decides to have a chat with the driver at the next intersection, instead of engaging in any hostile exchange of words, the guy says "Happy Valentines"..

Needless to say, me and the kids were giggling for the next few kilometers... My wife, a bit less :)

There are some very friendly lane creepers out there.

I just politely swear at people under my breath when I give them a gap/let them in and they don't thank me.

And don't get me started on bikers who don't nod their head in my direction when I move over to give them extra space. I thought bike and gave you extra room, so the least you can do is nod your head at me. :(

I guess all this comes down to whether you do the right thing to do the right thing, or to be seen to do the right thing...?

Nah, it's not that serious. I always drive with consideration for others (as much as is reasonably possible).

To add, I always thank those that give me a gap, which is a daily thing having to get onto the N3 and shuffle across to the outer lanes.

Cost of medical services. Needs a picture of a muscle in my shoulder to determine condition. MRI quote R11 429. FFS! I don't need the machine, only a small pic..Sonar will have to do.

Im sure you already know the price of an MRI machine, between R15-30 million, gotta make their money back.

Wait until you have to deal with JHB highway / city traffic during the morning or afternoon peak hour chaos - and then add heavy rain into the mix as well... your nerves will be frazzled by the time you arrive at your destination...
Have to fetch wife tonight at airport, 17:30. Probably the worst time to drive from Durban back to the Midlands.

I have a 04h30 commute from Eastgate to OR Tambo (thankfully only 15 kms) coming up this week for a flight to DBN, then the trip from King Shaka to central DBN - then a 16h00 trip back to King Shaka on the same afternoon - then another trip from OR Tambo to home when I arrive back in JHB again... thankfully I will be a passenger as they are all shuttle trips... ;)
