Hmm, now that I think of it. The last time I was at an airshow, I was in a plane crash. True story.

My father bought a new Cirrus SR20 back in 2006. They ferried the plane all the way here. As they normally do.
I also did my PPL back then. I went solo somewhere between 10-15 hours iirc. And after that, I stopped. Never completed the PPL.

We were attending an airshow in Heidelberg. And we had a crash landing type of event coming back home. Had a prop strike, and we went off the runway. The left side wheel strut/landing gear collapsed after landing in the grass, after we had the prop strike. Real wtf moment.

The gear is designed in such a way as to absorb the impact. And obviously, to break if you slam it hard enough.

Iirc the damage was in the region of R400-500k. Maybe less. Can't remember.
Apart from the visible damage, they had to open the engine as well as required, and it is standard practice, afaik, if you had a prop strike.

Yoh - you casually mention half a mil damage. Was that covered by insurance or was it your monthly income ?

Spontaneously, my 16yo lad came up with and prepared the menu for supper tonight. Everything was delicious. A lovely evening. Thank you Lad.
So, KFC or McD ? Suspense is killing me even this happened a while ago.

A brown hyena standing beside the ruins of an abandoned diamond mining settlement has earned (South African; my addition) wildlife photographer Wim van den Heever the title of Wildlife Photographer of the Year.

I never could understand what they mean. Did they spend 10 continuous years to get this shot at this or different location ? Did they have idea about such type of shot 10 years ago and it took them 10 years to take photo?
He set up his camera trap after spotting fresh hyena tracks in the ghost town of Kolmanskop, Namibia. It took him ten years to get the shot, he said.

George Michael. We so love his beautiful time in music post Wham! Cannot get enough of him. If only he came to South Africa or we could have seen him somewhere.

Monthly income.

Joke, insurance paid for it.

Unfortunately, my father had another incident with the same plane. Some time after that.
The plane misfired 2 twice upon take off, and he could not gete nough speed to get airborne, and also had too much speed to stop in time before the end of the runway. So he went off the runway into the grass and through a fence.

He was a good pilot. Stuff happens. After the second time, my mom said ok, you're done. Klaar gespeel.
So he sold the plane.

He had a couple 100h hours and also his night rating.

When you kid is in the cricket team, they're playing against a clearly superior school in a 50 over game, they lose the toss, and the opposition bowls first.
What was going to be an entire day is now like 2 hours.

As an aside, I think primary schools would lose far fewer players to other sports than they currently appear to be losing if they kept the games to t20 type matches. So many seem to be moving to basketball and water polo cos dang, 50 overs is a lot for the kids. Especially when they bowled out third ball or whatever.
Club cricket they can have 50 over games, for those proper into it.

We had another lovely timeout on the stoep with the cherubs. It was a cool evening, but a good way to chill and catch up as a family, and watching our cats frolic in the garden.

Someone sent me a gift package I didn't think I deserve as I have been moaning a lot lately. It made my day and made me feel appreciated.

Unfortunately it was not @Dave and @purple face wedding invite. Seems like they got married without us sharing in the joy.
Not me maybe @Dave and his wife he is already married to in the UK.

Hey man, as a random bystander you are appreciated. You're on of the few consistently level-headed chaps I've seen on here.
