Think Netflix will kill DStv? Think again

I have converted 6 family / friends from DStv to netflix/kodi etc on Android media TV in the last 2 months alone

I hope you hooked them up with US Netflix and not our local barren wasteland? If you have anyone moan about the lack of sport, whisper ntv.mx very quietly to them.

The nice thing kodi has some cool addons and TV portal as everything. But yes US Netflix set up

I heard the other day that CBS Sports is trying to get into South Africa. Not sure how true this is

4Mbps Telkom at home good enough for Netflix "HD". Sometimes streaming 2x Netflix, Hulu and son playing online games at the same time without issue. And why bother with capped? It is so last decade. All of this and we have never used more than 250GB/month. Usually around 200GB. The data in your article seems like DSTV spin-doctoring and not properly researched info? Have you tested the info you quoted, or just took it as truth?

Fibre penetration is going to overtake them in relatively no time. The only thing they have to hold on to is Afrikaans and sport. Though most people don't see any value in holding on to premium just for that.

Because large caps are cheap now, run at line speed and are unshaped?

Also, uncapped is either unavailable or very expensive on fibre.

Netflix didn't kill DSTV for me - DSTV killed DSTV all by itself.

You don't need fiber for Netflix.

I didn't get fibre for Netflix. Now that I have it though, it is nice being able to support as many simultaneous 1080+p streams as the family can manage.

And you need a pretty fast connection if you want to stream 4K. Most new TVs support 4K, so it's nice to be able to support native res streaming.

Oh, good for you. Hope they're happy.

I don't watch movies or series on DStv (or Netflix for that matter), so I guess one or two of us might just subscribe a little longer.

Once they saw my setup (think I must do a setup blog) they were as keen as........ (you can make up your own analogy)

Lol

Gawd what a hyperbole.. Netflix isn't an assassin it's not supposed to kill anything.

It's supposed to give those if us who'd rather stream that option and it does that well. That could possibly lead to dominance over Dstv, but I think they service a different market.

Dstv priced themselves out of my value-for money bracket but still has its place for people like my parents, as do companies that enable us hippies to cut the cord.

Netflix pretty effectively ended the video rental store business in the states...
