I can't handle the slow network anymore (0.25mbps) - yeah sad.

So i saw this contract and also someone suggested it, you get 5 gigs on peak and 15 gigs off peak (20 gigs in total) , i will miss the UNCAPPED data but whats the point when the speed is absurd and yes 20 gigs seems so little for me but what can you do *sigh*

I will be buying a cell c sim just to check coverage before deciding to go for the contract, anyone here can tell me what speeds i could get from this contract and also any advice will be appreciated.

Thank you.

I have great Cell C reception at my home and I have my sim card in my iPad.

Results are: Ping 600 - 700ms, Download: 7 - 10Mbps, Upload: 2.4Mbps.

I have a 2Mbps ADSL line but when it is running slow I switch over to the Cell C sim.

Location, location. I suggest anyone that decides to put down a big sum of money to get a Redbull 200Meg and maybe stay up a night late and try that 1Gig @ R10.

And judge the performance for yourself at your location. Even maybe move around a bit in the house seeing if you cannot improve the download speed with a spot with better connectivity.

For instance I'm at my brothers house atm, and I dowloaded 120kb/s average.
Whereas at home I can get up to 600kb/s+ easily.

I agree on the location issue. While I get great reception at home where I have full signal, if you drop to 4/5 bars then sometimes you struggle to get any speed let alone decent speed.

Test first before committing.

Try Afrihost / Axxess first. Better coverage on MTN network.

Buy a 99c Cell C starter pack, register it, load a 10Mb bundle or something and test to see that their network will perform well in your area. The Cell C GigaNite 20 is really nice, I am using it right now, only because Cell C's network in PE (Summerstrand) is really great (get anything between 3 - 10Mbps).

Thanks for all the replies!

and yes i don't want to jump into a contract if the signal is bad and thus speeds becoming just as slow as my current contract,

@Pope and @Koeks thanks for your info regarding the network, 10mbps is like a dream right now lol, you can imagine going from 0.25 to 10! ...also @Koeks is the 20 gigs enough for you??

@Mike thanks for the suggestion, i'll take a look around there, hoping for something similar or better.....i given up on Uncapped 3G since no deal exist ...sadly ADSL is out of the question.

Thank you!

Well the 20GB is okay for me, most months that is. If I schedule all my downloads and stuff to happen from 00:00 - 6am, only browse during the day and run a few online games and skype, then it is more than enough for me. It depends on your usage, if you are not an extreme heavy downloader then this should be more than enough for you.

Just be sure that you have tested Cell C's network in your area before signing a deal with them - at the Cell C store, they will just check your area to see if there is ANY coverage (this doesn't reflect on the network quality).

I wouldn't even touch that lame excuse of uncapped 3G from MTN, getting throttled to death after consuming your "Fair Usage Limit".

Thank you :)

i will surely do this and then decide on this contract.
