This cant be allowed to happen....

I honestly think the minister should be praised in this regard.
The government have taken a clear stance that the land that is redistributed must be utilized fully or it will be forfeited back to the state.
That only seems logical to avoid what happened up north.

From the article it appears as if there are clear thinking people out there analyzing the successes and failures of reform and trying to improve on the situation, be it through access to the necessary funding for new farmers, or transfer of knowledge.

There is a need for land reform in this country, that cannot be disputed, nor the need for that reform to be for the benefit of the nation as a whole and for it to be successful.
The process is slow, but perhaps that is a direct result of the complexities of this issue and the need to get it right.

FFS can't the people realise farming is not for everyone! It should be explained to everyone with a land claim, farm for profit, instead of just a temporary solution so they can have a house and some food.

Small-scale farmers who had rented the farm have now abandoned it, leaving the ostriches to languish in their pens, limping and infertile.

Senior researcher Michael Aliber said that about half of the resettlement projects had collapsed, but questioned if the beneficiaries should be blamed.

Well, farming for profit is the ideal, but surely it is also better to have someone farm simply to sustain their own needs rather than have them be unemployed and hungry?

Um no... Those farms are not only for profit as stated above, they are also used to supply not only the family living on the farm with food, but also to supply families across SA with purcashable produce. Whippee 1 family is farming 25 Hectares so they can eat :p I feel these farms should be in the hands of people not looking to "sustain" themselves but to rather produce a decent harvest yearly for SA...

Noted.

Don't think the govt will have the guts to take away farms from the new owners, though.

Yes we really need every farm to be running optimally. We all know what happened in a certain neighbouring country
