This happened 2 me today!

Good point. That's the reason you should have a dead bolt on the door. Dogs are the best option and the most legal offensive weapon.

I think you meant to say Dogs are the best option and the most useless offensive weapon ;) They suck with burglars, unless you have a pitt bull or something (not talking to you pittbull) I've heard of huge dogs that get stabbed to death, poisoned, shot, whatever method to kill it, they're good for a bark for sure

or you could send your dog to police training.....and it becomes a MachinE!

not all dogs are useless http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=56151 :D

but there was an insert on special assignment a while ago if u have dogs no matter what kind the burglars piss or ur yard while ur not at home then the dogs get used to the smell and then the burglars can just walk into ur yard cos the dogs "knows" the person

That truly sux, glad you are ok though.
It's a horrible feeling when you are violated in this way.

They most probably will come back to be honest, it has happened at my girlfriends house at least 3 times in the last 6 months, each time something scares them off but they still have the ordacity to come back again and again!

The burglar bars on the windows are exactly the same as yours and trust me the buggers can get through them!
Best advice, get a dog or two, and add extra bars to the windows.
So sad that we have to live this way.

I got a dog,his name is Vleis and he is a basset hound. I swear if he could he would have helped them to carry the stuff :) Im just glad he is ok.

I also expect them to come back. But luckely we caught one, so hell be a little scared to come back!

Thnx for the support guys :)

Really sorry that happened, just glad nobody got hurt and they got one of the bastards, hopefully that'll put them off coming back. I really do think you should consider an alarm though, seems to be about the best security you can have, in combination with other factors obviously.

Didn't have an alarm in the place I stay in at university originally because it was supposed to be a secure complex etc., then we got broken into at night, slept through it luckily and they got disturbed so didn't get too much. Anyway my point is that after that we had an alarm linked to armed response put in the next day, and although they came back over the space of a few days trying to get into other places, sometimes as many as 3 times a night, they left us and the other people that had alarms/armed response alone.

Mine actually went off for no reason in the middle of the night last night, nothing wrong luckily, but I'd barely deactivated it and there were 2 armed response guys at the front door to check what was going on. So at least if you have an alarm and they get in setting it off should either scare them away or they'll be caught pretty soon. Its no way to live but what else can you do in this place.

Hope you don't have any more problems.

Hate to say it, but alarms aren't all they're cracked up to be. We had one (ADT) and it was mostly useless. It would go off in the middle of the night for now reason. Tech guys kept saying it was dampness that caused it. After awhile, we just stopped turning it on at night. Went about 6 months without activating the sucker until we moved from that place.

On another occasion I was sitting around (most likely wasting time on this forum) in the middle of the day in my living room. The neighbors alarm went off and all I could think after 30 minutes was why can't ADT turn that stupid thing off remotely. Later that night when the pizza guy came to my door, he told me the cops were next door. Turns out the crooks were in the house the whole time while the alarm was going off. And since ADT can't get past the fence, the crooks can just wait them out and then be on their way. (and I was just bothered with the noise! silly me :o )

thats true wen our alarm went off when we werent here (false alarm eventually :) ) chub said they couldnt get into the property because of our gate :( if there were any robbers they would have been outta in no time

Koos... looked at those pics. Your house looks like mine on a good day :P Sorry to hear about the attempted burglary. Glad you're ok. Why you tried to charge them, I don't know!

I've been living in my area for about 10 yrs now. It's quite safe, we've been burgaled once though. There was a problem with our electric fencing, called the security company. The guy came to deactivate it while we trimmed the trees around the fencing. It was off for one day, and we were burgaled.

Inside job? I think so. Can't prove it though.

Mine's only gone off once in the middle of the night for no reason luckily. Where I stay here the armed response company has a key to the outside gate so they can at least get into the complex and then presumably if there's forced entry can get in the same way the criminals did. Luckily we haven't had any problems since we had it put in. To me the most important thing about an alarm though is that if you need somebody to respond they'll actually come, unfortunately you can't say that about the police these days.

Got ADT in PE as well and they seem to be good there, although luckily where I stay there there's not much crime.

Does seem a bit too convenient, although I suppose they could have seen it being deactivated.

possibly, when i lead the guy to the fence power box, he asked if we had any dogs. (Which we have none) We've chance fencing companies and we haven't had a problem since *knock on wood*

Next time just tell them you have 3 Dobermans but you locked them away while they're fixing it, although they're usually in the garden. :D

haha ja thats what I used to do... say the big dog is sleeping round the front so be quiet and dont wake him!..
Course that plan has gone down the tubes now since we got Sophie the Porker and she tries to lick EVERYONE to death ...
