So surfing the sports channels on DSTV as one tends to do when taking a break from COD4, and I end up on ESPN, and there are these kids that look a tad on the geeky size talking about kicking butt on football, and I was thinking weird, these kids don't look big enough to play American football - turns out it was an xbox360 Madden football competition - televised and with a $100,000 prize.
So I mean how incredible is this, that in the USA they actually televise and give out huge money prizes playing Xbox games, incredible - and these kids get bussed around, meet the real players and wear like the team colours and shirts, and go on TV playing TV games and win a huge amount of money - I mean how many South African sports stars earn R750,000 a season and this is just for winning some Madden xbox360 football competition - amazing!
I wonder if any SA companies want to sponsor a R750,000 xbox Brian Lara cricket competition?

Lol it is incredible...but their gaming community is definitely waaaaay ahead of ours. We are catching up though! More and more people are buying consoles and gaming online, plus with AGASA and everything now hopefully we'll start to leave our mark on the gaming world.

I doubt we have much chance with a Brian Lara comp but I did get a sniff from a few companies to sponsor a SA Gears team.... They may be more inclined with COD4 since it isn't as gory....

I also watched that show a couple of times on ESPN2 i think... It's freakin hilarious how they diss and shout obscenities at each other while playing....Plus their entourage and back ups are also funny as hell...

I love ESPN! They have all the interesting sports. Not really surprised that they show a games comp though, since they also show spelling B's and that sort of thing.

The exchange rate is R6.80 to the $ and not a change will something of it kind happening in SA. ESPN is an awsome channel.

I think UT3 is generally off the cards at these things because it boils down to a bit more luck (find best weapon first etc) than something like CS or CoD.

CoD4 hardcore would be cool. initially I disliked hardcore, but since I discovered the shotty with extra damage, I love it. It's like a long range mincer :D

boychild and furnic playing COD4 hardcore, get the first 7 consecutive kills and about to call in heli, when mrs furnic (soon to be ex mrs furnic) decides to clean shelf with router and unplugs the router....man, oh man, I didn't know boychild possessed such a juicy vocabulary!
