This is driving me NUTS! can you help ?

ok i got this mobo: http://www.foxconnchannel.com/ProductDetail.aspx?T=motherboard&U=en-us0000573

H77mxv-d (the one without the hdmi onboard)
The board has one PCIe 3.0 * 16 slot and two 2* PCIe x1 slot

ok so i have a graphics card in the one big slot and one wireless card in one of the small slots (PCIe *1)

now i installed another add on card (PCIe serial ata 11 card) i needed and extra sata slot for another internal drive i was adding on.

PROBLEM is the card wont work, i switched the cards on the slots and the wireless card works on either but the new card wont pick up ! i took it back to matrix and they checked it out and it worked 100% there :(

i dont know what the problem is, i checked the BIOS and there's no setting in there to enable the 2nd PCIe slot and i updated all the drivers but still no luck.

The OS is win7 sp1 professional, under device manager nothing comes up as yellow (driver not found) so the card doesnt even pick up :( somebody please help :( :(

the pc is the pre-built ones from esquire with an updated mobo and psu (cpu i5 3570)

any ideas ?
 
Did they say @matrix that Windows has build in driver?
It should be driver CD coming with the card. Download driver. It seems device is detected, but no driver.

+1 I had a similar issue with a PCI ethernet card,It didnt show up under device manager but once I installed it`s drivers and it was fine.
 
No it's not the drivers me thinks. I installed all of those and even if I missed any the card should still display under device manger but with a yellow tag or am i totally wrong again :(
 
Ok how do you install the drivers ? All the drivers on the disk are not install files so how would I install them ?
 
The files are .sys .vxd .cpl and the others are a security catalog and set up information
 
Search for an exe? usually setup.exe
but thats a bit unusual,most drivers these days are self extracting archives so it would be just a single exe.
which version of windows are you using?
also I`ve seen devices not show up in device manager but work fine once the drivers were installed

Possibly but why would matrix say it was fine,Maybe theres something wrong between your pc and the card? what about taking it to them to check?
Well matrix has ripped me off once before... so its possible thats its a dud
 
I'm willing to bet that your Ivy Bridge chip has disabled the board's ability to support more than one PCI-Express 1x slot. If Matrix says it works, take them on their word for now. See if you can find a Sandy Bridge chip to test with and see if it works with that.
 
Nah the matrix guy checked it in front of me and it showed up under device manager in yellow, he then downloaded the drivers because he also couldn't figure out how to install it from the disk. Once installed the pc picked up the card and the drive he connected to it, looks like its something to do with my mobo but can't figure it out, checked bios and there's no settings for the pice except to interrupt the power saving mode. The CPU is a i5 3570 so not sure if that matters

let's assume you right, how would I fix that ?
 
Ignore windows and drivers. You should be able to fix this problem in the BIOS somehow. Either with a setting as NAG - Wesley suggested, or a BIOS update for your motherboard.

I know I had big issues with the i3570k wrt onboard graphics, SATA controllers etc. Which needed some tweaking before it would even boot.

EDIT: Whatever the problem, you should be able to detect all of your drives in the BIOS before Windows even starts.

Are your drives in a RAID array? Does your SATA controller card support AHCI mode? Is your BIOS set to AHCI mode? I guess the settings would need to match, whatever they are set to.

okay i've updated the bios using fox liveupdate YAY ! first time doing that :D

to answer your question No the bios is not set to AHCI its set to the default which is IDE something, i did think of changing it but before i did i googled and WOW seems most people get a BSOD after changing those settings ...

My drives are not in RAID - uhm raid means where 2 or more drives display as one drive right ? if so then my drives are definitely not in raid :)

ok after some googling it seems those settings should be set to RAID or at least SATA by default, changing it now means i risk the BSOD Grrrrrrr. looks like i'll have to reinstall and change the settings then.

Edit: Thanks to everyone who helped, at least now i have an idea of what needs to be done.
will update once i reinstall which would probably be during the week, i ordered a few more drives and a new case so might as well wait for them to arrive then change the bios setting and install a new OS

You don't fix it, at least not on a hardware level. I see there's a BIOS update for the board that was published this year - install that and see if somehow, somewhere along the line, Foxconn fixed this in the BIOS. If it doesn't work, go to step two.

Step two is to find someone with a Sandy Bridge LGA1155 processor (can be any one chip, really, even a Celeron) and see if, in the course of the chipset detecting the Ivy Bridge processor you currently have, thereby switching the PCI-Express 16x slot from the 2.0 to 3.0 standard, it doesn't accidentally disable extra lanes or switch off the other PCI-E 1x slot when either one is populated. Intel may be the sole supplier for the chipsets these manufacturers put on the boards, but it doesn't make the BIOS for them, its up to Foxconn to do so in this particular case and they may have fudged up somewhere.

Option three is testing out all manner of PCI-E SATA/RAID cards until you come up with one of them that is compatible with the board. Although I'm skeptical of a hardware incompatibility at this point, it's not entirely ruled out.

You should look at the OP again. The guy is trying to add a single drive to the system, not a RAID array, else he'd tell us if he was.

I'd say leave them. If you don't see extra SATA ports to boot off from when you're in the BIOS and looking at options for booting from drives then you're looking at either a BIOS or hardware issue. Don't change the drive modes for the ones you already have, it's not going to change anything.

Just do it. If you get BSOD reboot and change it back.

ok if changing those wont help then i might as well not reinstall just yet but i need to eventually so will change them then.

its strange really because the wifi card works on both slots but the new card wont pick up at all.
oh well guess the extra drive will have to wait for now until i can make a plan.
