This is why DStv stopped making 4-tuner decoders

Does anyone know how to connect it to watch the 2 channels without another decoder. Apparently you should be able to watch 2 and record 2 channels?

AFAIK it's only watch 1 record 2.
Not sure why it's called a 4-tuner.

Though there were versions that had dual view. (watch 2 record 1)

Record 2, Watch 1.. thats 3 tuners, the 4th tuner was used for trickle data (Catch Up) and EPG and such.

Nope, there is no decoder that provides this functionality. It is only with 2 decoders that it becomes possible, and now, recently announced, view 3 record 3 is also possible with a combination of Explora and HD decoders.

So please let us know what decoder/s you have and then someone will be able to advise you on what the possibilities are.

The existing combinations with older decoders are:

2 x 1110/1131/1132 = view 2 no record
HD PVR 2P/2U + 1110/1131/1132 = view 2 record 1
HD PVR 4P/4UEC + 1110/1131/1132 = view 2 record 2
HD PVR 2P/2U + SD PVR = view 3 record 2
HD PVR 4P/4UEC + SD PVR = view 3 record 3
2 x HD PVR 4 tuners = view 2 record 4

Note: The SD PVR is no longer supported by MC nor is the HD PVR 4 tuner manufactured by UEC.

Explora + 1110/1131/1132/HD 4U/4S = view 2 record 1
Explora + HD PVR 2P = view 2 record 2
Explora + HD PVR 4P/4UEC = view 2 record 3
Explora + Explora = view 2 record 2

Note The SD PVR cannot be combined with an Explora (Officially), the SD PVR and the 4 tuner UEC is no longer supported by MC.

New:

3 Exploras = view 3 record 3
2 Exploras + HD 4U/4S = view 3 record 2
1 Explora + 2 x HD 4U/4S = view 3 record 1

Note: Support for all older combinations is likely to be terminated at some point.
NO 3 decoder support is supported by MC with an Explora with any older decoder in the mix --- (technically possible, but not supported within the sw or in MCs business plan. No detailed info in the public domain, so this is the conclusion I have come to and not supported by any official information from MC).

The 4 tuner allowed for simultaneous download of BO, CU and background data streaming and full recording capability.

SD PVR: 3 tuners , 2 used for dual view, 3rd shared between customer driven recordings, BO, CU and data streaming, with customer recordings taking priority
HD PVR 2 tuners : view 1 all other functions using the second tuner with customer recordings taking priority
HD PVR 4 tuners: view 1, record 2 with all other stuff using the 4th tuner, no trade off between customer recording and BO/CU/data streaming.
Explora: 3 tuners: View 1 record 1 with 3rd tuner doing all the other stuff.

How do they know if their decoder is going to "satisfy" their clients  Everything they do is for their own pockets. They just don't care. How dare they create an impression that they listen to their customers, bastards

Market research and the like.
