This is why DStv wants you on an Explora PVR

because Kodi/Netflix/Showmax is eating into their revenue, and they are trying to keep people brainwashed into watching programs when some man in a suit decides is appropriate?

but people dont want to watch the shows at the time they are aired anymore, they want to watch them when it is comfortable to do so.
so enter "catchup" a lame excuse for a sinking ship to compete in a changing world.

you want to save DSTV? give us a Supersport ONLY package that we can stream.

They probably could. At like R300-R400 a month though.

Would you sign up at that price?

I'll pay R100pm for a Supersport Streaming service.
I'll even pay R200pm for a Sports only DSTV package.

But not paying R700pm for a load of sht i never watch just to be able to watch Rugby/Cricket once in a while.
 
Again the premium subs are subsidising the others. Also the rugby/cricket watchers, there are at most times 3-6 channels which shows soccer :sick:

They need to have pay per view. Then have separate packages for particular sports and events.
 
They could have a ShowMax, Supersport, Mweb online bundle at say R400 that could work?

If they really want to do something to increase revenue, bring back the option of having 3 or even 4 devices viewing at the same time. If you are a family of 4 and you can give each person their own "channel", more would sign up for the service instead of people signing up with Netflix or showmax which allows you to watch up to 5 devices at a time. Never understood why they did not incorporate the multi-tuner design into the explora or allowed streaming clients to connect to it so you can watch catchup on Smart TV and the like.

Anyhow such is life. Not that it really makes a difference as soon we won't be able to afford it anyway with the way the Rand is going.
 
We should brace ourselves for this year's subscription increase.

Don't see how they can keep it under R1,000 for the Premium subscription + Access Fee with the Rand weakening as it is.

Never streamed an entire test.
but we have a 2meg line, runnign Vox fatpipe 75.
we stream every night from around 6 to about 10.
weekends its a lot more if we are home.

most sundays I am home alone, streaming Twitch from about 12 until about 9.

we also keep our apps up to date, and I play hearthstone.

never reached cap.

we do on average about 40 to 50 gig a month between two of us.

This is good news as they are busy with fibre rollouts in my complex. I was wondering how much data would be necessary.

yeah, I am on a slow line. so everything is in SD.
with Fiber you will bein HD, and you will be using way more than I will.

think around 200 to 300 GB would be your average use.

A friend of mine has a 10meg line, and they go through more than 400gb in a month.
but that is 2 xbox ones, a Torrnet PC, netfix, hulu, two teenagers at home...

I agree.

I pay my parents' DStv contract. So I cancelled my own subscription and setup a VPN with Hulu + Netlfix and use their DStv now account to stream sport when I need to.
 
As everyone else said, it's the only package they have that can compare to the competition while still using satellite.
