The point is much of what is written around hashtag analysis can be done just as easily elsewhere too. Yes the geolocation paired with that I'm sure is useful and interesting, but the trend is to anyway move away from disclosing geolocation (accurately that is). The downside to having "just Twitter" is we become too accustomed to it being there, and we don't harness alternatives. We entrench a closed garden ecosystem. It is time we thought to achieve the same but with a variety of systems, in other words enforce more interoperability and data exchange. Companies like Twitter and Facebook just love it when users get locked-in and dependent on them. The break from Twitter is just what is needed to think more broadly and to future-proof what we design.
