Thoughts Buying Used Vehcile

every used car is a lucky packet ... you just need to know how to inspect a car to know its worth.

If cannot send a sample of Engine oil, gearbox oil, Radiator fluid away for analysis, you don't know much about that car.

Thanks for the inofrmation guys.

Thought I was clued up, but boy, I didnt know about that 320I engine issue. Will have to reevaluate my choice.

I was actually always going for a 320D, just got worried about the turbo, but you guys have put my mind at ease. Thanks.

Who does that?

I do, but actually I never bought a second hand vehicle in my life, just do not want somebody elses problem child to nurse, very happy with every new one I bought, and why sell a good one to buy a risk. However I had to decide to keep a Mercedes out of guarantee or get rid of it, everything seems ok. So I got samples of everything on next service of items chosen by me out of gurantee, got it tested. The aftermarket guarantee costed R60 000+ per year. Up to date I saved a bout 2 new engines and a 7G tronic gearbox worth.
I bought another new vehicle to replace it(More reliable in general), and if the Merc broke big, I can just scrap it if I want.
The thing is if everything seems ok, those tests can give some real good mechanical assurance in my opinion, so thats what I do.
I did it on the new vehicle 1st service to have a record for future reference, no big deal actually.
