Hi all

Looking at buying a 2nd vehicle for our household.

2014 BMW 3 Series 320i AUTO F30 Mileage 95 275 Km - Price R 259 900

What are your thoughts on 2nd hand Beemers? Is the above deal relative good?

Any other recommendations are welcomed.

Tried registering on bmwfanatics, but forum is closed for registrations.

I have a problem with the deal

Found one with the same mileage for R230 000 2014 BMW 3 Series 320i Luxury Line A/t (f30)https://www.cars.co.za/for-sale/use...i-Luxury-Line-At-f30-Gauteng-Rivonia/3219143/
and another with lower mileage for R250 000

Good cars, good deal. Not as powerful as the 320d.
No extensive gearbox problems as with the 00's Autos
 
You should also look into getting the BMW driving course for that price.

The course include the following: How not to indicate ever. How to cut off other cars on the highway. How to park like an idiot

Sugarman, most of the 320Ds I see are close to the 150000km mark, which Iv heard, is bad news for the potential buyer, as life expectancy on the turbos are 150-200k.

Or have I been misinformed?

The indicators are an optional extra...
 
Car looks like a good deal , I am a car dealer so let me tell you what's wrong with it.
The motorplan is well finished or 5000 km left so your probably done within the coming months, did you enquire about the comments on the car? has it been in an accident? a lighthouse report will cost R 100 bucks and its worth its weight.

And lastly the risk of 2nd hand BMW is that if something goes wrong and your out of motorplan it can become an expensive fix.

I figured that Id have the handful of Advanced F1 Certified Drivers,pausing their games,and coming out from behind their PS4 Thrustmasters to troll, as soon as their eyes saw "BMW"

Chances are, if we had to pull stats, you'd be quite surprised at how many decent Beemer drivers there are. Poor driving is an individual person problem, not a vehicle brand problem.

These "jokes" are so old and lame even 5 year olds are pointing at you and sniggering.

If you want to have plenty of issues, this is right car to buy for you :)

N20 engine has way to much issues to recommend it.

Just buy the 320D and call it a day, it is best daily driver you can get.

I bought my 320D f30 at 140k, I have 170k now still going strong.

Forum member on bmw fanatics has his x3 at 250k, which has the same engine as the 320d, still everything original.
 
I would be careful when buying that model. The earlier model N20 engines in the F30 have a potential timing chain issue. I think it affects 2012 - 2014 (although maybe not all 2014s - not sure of the exact date of the fix).
Basically the guides for the timing chain can shatter resulting in further damage to the engine. If you are lucky enough to not damage the engine, you're still looking at R25 - R30k for the repair. Worst case scenario is a new engine at over R150k.

BMW has not issued a recall and there are class action lawsuits in progress internationally. In the US, BMW has extended the warranty.

My recommendation would be to read up on the timing chain issue. Check whether that year is affected (I suspect it is) and if so, check with the owner if they have had the repair done. If they have, there's no reason not to go for it, but if they haven't, get a quote from BMW to do the repair and then see if the value still makes sense.

Yeah to be safe min get a early 2015 model, just not worth the risk.

2012 F20 125i MSport Auto with about 80 000 KM on the odo.
- Acquired October 2015 and is still under finanace.
- Went out of motor plan in November 2017.
- Under BMW Financial Services Extended Warranty (Platinum option) since November 2017.
- Car lost power on the highway, drivetrain error message, lots of white smoke coming from exhaust. I pulled over and got towed by a truck to BMW dealership.
- Dealership wants to replace Turbo and Engine for R285k.

My BM is past that mileage and I haven't had issues. OP should just get a 320D. Slightly expensive, but quicker, more fuel efficient and more robust.
