Is R150 000 for a 2008 Lexus IS250 Auto with 96 000KM on the clock worth it?

The seller is a fairly close friend and has owned the car from new. No accidents or major issues with it. The maintenance plan has expired so my main concern is just that...maintenance costs.

Sounds cheap to me.

Just save up in case something breaks.

If the maintenance has lapsed then you don't get the benefit of a renewal discount. Will probably cost a small fortune to buy a new plan for that car.

It's now a game of risk. Cheap if all goes well. I imagine hellishly expensive if something goes wrong...

Beautiful car and at reasonable price, but I think they're coming down to around the R120,000 - 140,000 mark now. The IS250SE is the one to have if I recall. It has the built-in SatNav, rear-view camera, and some other goodies.

Those V6 engines are said to be bulletproof, but when buying an executive brand, an aftermarket motor plan might be a good idea.

Hyundai offered her R100k for a trade in so I could possibly negotiate the price a bit.

Lexus isn't/wasn't allowing her to renew the motor plan for some reason.

Awesome car. I almost bought one. Lexus has been voted the most reliable car brand in the USA for years now. There's less chance of something breaking on the car than a VW, BMW, Merc or Audi.

I would happily have bought one if it would fit in the garage.

Prepare yourself for R2500 - R3500 per service for the next three services as a few mileage items might pop up.

Cambelt service is probably soon but won't be too bad from a non-dealer. Brake discs and pads probably very soon as well.

Then some surprises might be CV boots, fanbelt etc.

If anything I would recommend taking the car to a reputable workshop you would ultimately take the car to in future for services and have them do a full check.

I see you are in Cape Town so I can highly recommend Goch & Cooper.

Sauronza, do you have any service experience with them? I want to try them, but there's a bit of hesitation because of all the complaints on HelloPeter.

I also note that they won awards from the AA for three years in a row.

Yeah both my cars have gone there for their last few services.

It's the closest thing to a real dealership you'll get from the private unofficial side of things with courtesy cars and all.

They are pricier than you average backyard me chai but not unreasonably so and nothing like the official dealers. I do beeline they use all original parts as well which might have something to do with it.

Strange you day lots of mentions on Hello Peter I went and checked on them there before I took my car there the first time and there was nothing too terrible.

Did you take the car? I am looking for one for my wife but below 120k range
