Thoughts on Cataclysm

imho vanilla wow was king. tbc was fun and wotlk just broke most of the things one could work and aspire too...

...however one can out grow your mmo (Will You Grow Out of Your MMO?) and maybe then it is time to leave ;) not to mention that blizzard will cater for the largest group who are paying them to have it more inline with their style- even if it means that the game are being played mostly by casual players instead of hardcore players who rather at times wants modes over everything being "too hard" for them.

I agree. I loved vanilla Wow and achieved the most in TBC. WotLK is more of the same without the (personal) challenges.

As for PvP being easier ... really ... really ... that is completely baffling. As far as I can see the complaint is that other people now have the audacity to fight you with equal gear. Since well it's still Player vs Player, the 'easy' as which you can get a higher rating is completely dependent on how you fare against other players, so I really don't see how this can get any easier from expansion to expansion.

It's clear you haven't done any pvp. Ever faced a wizard cleave? Or a dk/warrior? Yes, setup carries you alot. The complaint is that everything zergs everything in a second. Go play on a TBC realm and then on a Wrath realm. The change is MASSIVE and it's just crazy how fast any class can nuke in 3v3. When you can literally kill people in 10 seconds it really doesn't come down to how you fare against other players. They messed up pvp completely.

GTFO with resilience... .pvp died when arena came out for me, I have 100 marks of each gear on my char, cba spending it, maxed out honor etc its just a farmboat now.

bring back the old ranks!

ye lets just go back to stacking stamina again! and getting 2 shot by hunters and spriests in full t3. game was much better then

I'm in a casual guild and I like where the game is right now. Hard modes and the best gear aren't such a big drawcard. I like Wrath for the content quality, not solely challenge or epeen factor. Quality, gentlemen. It's easy to forget about that word and focus entirely on the (lack of) exclusivity. TOC, the raid itself, might have been a wash, but Icecrown is great and, jsut generally speaking, all the other stuff to do besides raid is what keeps a lot of people invested - from daily dungeons to battlegrounds to daily questing to world events to whatever.

We get too wrapped up in the 'omg raid raid raid' mentality, and judge this game on nothing but that. But, actually, it's more than that. When you see the big picture you realise there's just nothing out there that holds even a candle to this game.

My hopes for Cataclysm are that we'll see some challenging, lengthier 5mans again, the likes of classic Stratholme, Scholomance and the like. It's the one aspect I miss, rounding up just a handful of friends and spending a few hours as opposed to 15 minutes, trekking through an epic, massive dungeon. Raiding is great 'n all but i miss the old school dungeon crawl.

Also, Cowpallies rawr. The one thing holding me back from rolling a pally is, i REFUSE to play an elf. Wouldnt have aproblem playing a dorf pally if I were Alliance...but Horde Fo Lyfe.

The reworked oldworld is going to be awesome, mostly for us who hail from vanilla WoW. People who've started with BC or even Wrath don't have the same memories. I spent so much time in vanilla levelling and questing and jsut hanging around. These days people jsut blitz through it all in a few days and bam, Northrend. Not that the old content is better - it's not, but there's a lot of it and it's what made WoW what it is in the first place. Having it all redone and brought up to Wrath level is going to be fantastic. It'll also be cool to see a lot of lowbies running around again instead of all these 80's decked in welfare epixx.

wait wait 11 million people must pay each month so that less than 1% of the 11 million can clear all content ? Damn you Blizzard for working to make moneys! O wait...

I'm really, really looking forward to some of the fundamental changes to stats and how everything works. It's going to make it a lot more intuitive, a lot less confusing and , I hope, is also going to make gearign across specs more uniform and simpler. ie DPS plate gear might be identical to the plate tanking gear, so for eg tanks wont have to build up two seperate sets of gear.

Via MMO Champion:

•MP5: This will be removed from items and replaced with Spirit. All healers will be given a meditation-like ability.
•Spell Power: Spell Power is being removed from items as well. Don't panic, we'll be improving Intellect so that it provides mana and Spell Power.
•Attack Power: We're removing Attack Power from items as well. Instead, we're allowing Agility to provide the necessary Attack Power for leather and mail wearers. Strength will provide the appropriate amount of Attack Power for plate wearers. This means leather and mail items will no longer be desirable for plate wearers.
•Defense: The Defense statistic is also being removed from items so that players no longer have to worry about juggling around "the cap." Tanks will receive the necessary anti-crit from talents, like Survival of the Fittest.
•Armor Penetration: This ability is too confusing and "mathy." It is being replaced with Mastery, a stat that makes you better at what you do. More on that later!
•Haste: Will also increase the rate at which you gain energy, runes, and focus. Retribution paladins and Enhancement shaman will have a talent that allows them to take advantage of this benefit.
•Block: Block Value is being removed. Blocking will now always mitigate a percentage of damage.
•Stamina: Players will notice more Stamina on gear as Defense, Spell Power, Attack Power and Armor Penetration are removed.

I approve of more stam across the board. For one, pvp will be less stupidly 'bursty'.

wouldn't more int/agi/str = more sp/ap/ap and then more DPS = Makin the stam boost useless? O and I cant wait to play my hunter, and not have to worry about mana

I believe these changes will co-exist with the 'Path of the Titan' character progression system to be implemented
