Thoughts on Volvo

Lol, R75k/142000... Most terrifying purchase of my life, it's either going to be amazing or a total disaster
Good price especially seeing it has a full service history. Amazing car, good looker as well, relatively peanuts for what you paid. Just drive it carefully and start a nest egg just in case, can't see any major repair being even vaguely cheap, what do reviews say regarding reliability and potential problems?

I'd find a dedicated Volvo forum, local or perhaps one in the UK and read up about them, normally a few things that if you watch them can prevent very expensive repairs.

With more specialist cars like this it can be significantly cheaper to get spares(even just service parts) from eBay.uk or European online parts shops, than from the local stealers, even after paying shipping and duties.

Jeez man let the bloke enjoy it a bit first and worry about repairs later.

:p

Thanks for all the advice. I did some research beforehand and there's nothing major that goes wrong with them, just standard niggles.

I'm not worried about big things breaking, it's unlikely and will be expensive in any car, it's the little things that I'm worried about brakes, shocks, services and even the funny windscreen wipers... The shops see a Volvo and start drooling apparently, R1100 for a minor service as an example

Haha nah it's ok I posted here for advice and horror stories.

Sounds like a good deal :). I know someone with a C30 and it's only been good for him...

Well that's good to hear!

looks to me like the most volvo's that gave issues were the models build under Ford's ownership. the S40 range used the Ford focus sedan chassis. obviously tuned to volvo spec but still... a guy at work had a S40 T5 , 2006 model - Tuned by HEICO (not sure how because they are based overseas and i cant find a branch in SA) anyway, he spend almost R40k just by replacing and fixing stuff on the car. Mostly mechanical and also the boot lock lol he sold the car for R98k with 122k km on the clock. Almost 85% under the bonnet was newly changes, serviced etc. Engine produced like 214 kw. i think it was a steal to buy the car but then i bought a Mini Countryman :D

I just found this forum and it's great to read everyone's thoughts.
My 1.9tdi Polo was stolen last week and now I am looking for something that I can buy with the insurance money, plus a bit extra. I found some great Volvo C30's and wondering if anyone has opinions on these? I'm probably going to go for a plain 2.0l Petrol (possible Auto). Years ago I drove one on the long road and it was great, but what I am purchasing has millage on (not more than 130 000km).

Does anyone know whether there are issues with the C30's that are a bit older?

The 2l engine is a Ford engine also used in the Ford Focus, it's a good bet and shouldn't give issues.
