Buying a second hand 2008 Mini Cooper S with about 80k on the clock?

Is it reliable and so fourth.

Before anyone comments about buying a new car, most things decent is above R150k and I can't afford that.

Also I always wanted a Mini Cooper.

But on a serious note, only hot girls should be allowed to drive Mini Coopers.

It's basically a BMW, so depends what you view as reliable. I say go for it. It's a damn sexy car :)

A friend has just sold hers. When I asked why her main complaints were (a) reliability & (b) high maintenance costs.

Its a damn good car, a bit expensive for services though. So maybe look for something else if you are already pushing your budget.

Had the old shape, 2003 - the previous shape early years were horrid with reliability.
It was probably the least reliable car I've ever owned, nothing major but just constant visits to the stealership.
Definitely least reliable with the crap service from BMW - but I'd gladly buy that car back today..!!
Painful and frustrating but thee most fun car I've owned and with character too!
(Drive an old m coupe - z3 type, and still prefer and miss the Mini!)

The new shapes pretty great, and a 2008 should be decent as its not the first yr the new shape was out - so should have improved on reliability..plus the fuel efficiency is way better than the old ones..

Doooo itttt!!

I had a Mini...brilliant car.

I would buy another in a heart beat....BUT

be very careful of a second hand S....probably driven HARD...

What's the price? If well looked after, few extras and nice colour don't hesitate. Buy it.

Make sure you check out the motorplan history. Any official dealer can give you a print out based on VIN (even when buying privat)

2nd hand mini = high chance it had the crap rode out of it.
It's like a second hand sports car, stay away!

I am just waiting for the dealer to get back to me.

You can't really say that the car was driven the crap out of it, maybe it had a female owner.
I had a GTi at a stage and I hardly ever drove it HARD.

What do you deem "decent"? I bought a 1 year old car for R114,000, including the balance of a 5-year warranty and 60,000 km service plan. ABS, power steering, central locking, radio/CD, airbags.
