Driver's licence extortion in South Africa

A MyBroadband reader was told they would be arrested if they ever get pulled over in a roadblock thanks to an unpaid R370 fine from 2018 that they were never informed about.

The only reason the reader found out about the outstanding fine is because the Electronic National Traffic Information System (eNatis) blocked them from renewing their driving licence.

where can i see if there is an enforcement order on my name?
A colleague once showed me but not sure where/what site

From an outfit who still mails out renewals for car licences stating that, "Payment by cheques is acceptable", one wonders if they know their A from their E!

You don't get arrested by the cops who hunt criminals. And violation of rules and laws doesn't work on some hierarchy where they give passes for lesser crimes just because they have some mass murderer to catch first.
Yes I know you are a real stickler for law and order

If there isn't an opportunity for extortion and corruption, they will change the law in order to create an opportunity.

All the promises about it being investigated and plans to be put in place to stop it comes to nothing.

I'm not sure if it's because the Post Office is basically non-existent at the moment, or because they don't bother to post fines, but pretty much for the last 5 years whenever I've received a speeding fine the only way I knew I had a fine was because I'm subscribed to Paycity. I don't understand why they can't just sms or email you directly that you have a fine, considering that the Enatis system has most people's cellphone numbers at the very least. Relying on the post office to deliver fines is crazy.

No 1 reason for any arrest by a traffic cop is to see if you'll "buy" your way out.

If this is extortion and coercion, aren't both acts illegal on their own? Why sort out the original issues until these two illegal acts are dealt with immediately and to the fullest extent of the law?

For them to arrest you, they have to have the original "warrant of arrest" there with them.
If they cannot produce it, they just looking for a KFC meal or something.
I think it is now called the R1 zero zero or R2 zero zero form?

Traffic offences are easy targets.
Hiding behind a bush taking speeding photos is not law enforcement it's a scam

Wasting police resources on minor offences whist having limited resources to arrest murders is stupid.

Way to miss an obvious point.

He got the shock of his life when he logged onto the eNatis system only to be informed that there was an enforcement order or warrant of arrest out for him.

Last i recall the provision to issue warrants of arrests have been removed from the AARTO act hence the enforcement order is issued and enforcement orders are not warrants - yes they still effectively Bully you to pay those because their system won't accept payments for drivers and vehicle licenses but you can't be arrested for it.

Find the colleague again? Perhaps he/she would still remember.

Jokes aside:

Just check, if I remember correctly, signing up on that site would allow them to email you the ticket and not by post/registered post anymore.

Otherwise, check your banking website.

What a joke!

What a joke! They are quick to pick on soft targets…why don’t they focus on the unregulated taxi industry???
