This allowed to track our usage every month, for a business that needs net connectivity (which business does not) it is important to know what you used and what you must still budget. It also allowed us to see that Axxess were using division by 1000 instead of 1024, that subsequently got changed when we made a noise about it so all remaining Axxess clients will now benefit from it.
The seond utillity is the Route Sentry one. This allows one to split your traffic over two accounts. Simply put this allows you to route all of your local traffic over an IS account and then all your international over a SAIX account. The best of both worlds. Now we dont have to watch and panic about bandwidth usage, we will always have email and local site acess for the business, and when we do research it will be at lightning( in SA terms) speed via SAIX. I cant tell you what a relief this is.
Then to solve the problem of multiple connections to the ISPs we have used DDProxy. This allows us to route all machines traffic via one machine that then uses Route Sentry to split the local and international traffic.
Now maybe if you are an IT person all of this is being accomplished via some really fancy hardware and software that your company has to have because of its size. For a small growing company that does not have a dedicated IT person these solutions are like manner.
The best part of all of this is the support that we got from Antibody while setting all of this up. For an IT guru this i am sure is the easiest thing in the world. But for someone like myself who is actually a finacial person its not that simple. We got help and guidance via email.
