Hi all,
I am hoping that someone has some advice/recomendations for me...
I am about to buy myself 2 22" lcd monitors, i already have A 21" CRT and a 20' CRT running from my 8800 gts 1 gig, my motherboard only has one 16x pci slot.

Now, i would like to run my new 22" lcd monitors on either side of my 22" CRT, how can i go about this?

As far as i can see i can a)buy a new motherboard and another g/card b)use a usb to VGA adaptor c)get something like the Matrox triplehead2go or c)stop being a greedy bastiche and just run the two lcd monitors and put my CRTs to pasture (the 20" is VERY old!).

Anyone doing something similar? can the USB adaptor power a monitor at 1600x1200? got a matrox thingy? like it?

anyhoo
thanks for listening.

p.s. the machine is mostly for gaming, with some dev work on the side.

You can get external USB Multi-monitor thingies.. just google for them. They are basically external graphics cards. Have seen them for massive multi-monitor setups... they are not cheap though.

go with D unless you have the cash spare for A or B ...... 2x22" is plensh :D

thanks for the replys,

spent some time today looking at options, didn't look at the prices for usb adaptors, but i read that the update speed is not so hot...

will probably just stick to the two lcd screens, take my good 22" to work, and turn the 20" into a goldfish bowl or somefiink.

just looking at my options at the moment.

the triplehead seems to be the best bet if was going to do this, but i am not keen on the resolution you need to run to get all of the monitors working. also it's not (as far as i am aware) available in this country. BUT the triplehead is supported by Shock Force (which is my current fave game).
cheers

Stoker, what software do you want to use three monitors with?

I have a dual monitor system which includes a 21-inch crt and a 17-inch lcd, driven by one graphics card.

So you need to tell us what you want to use all these monitors for... then we can help you.

sorry, missed the links (my bad)

sorry, but what difference does it make? to answer tho' day to day stuff, watch a movie, browse, do some dev work, anything really. BTW i know that most games do not support multi-monitor setups, however, anything in a window will...

p.s. vista 32 ultimate in case anyone cares </GRIN>

Stoker, you buy the linked TH2G Analog Edition at the peril of shooting yourself in the foot, the one you want is the digital one - see the product brochure at the matrox site for why.

And you may be surprised at which games DO recognise the resolution, they have a way of picking up the reported resolution from 'doze anyway

thanks, just finished looking at the usb adaptors, not gonna happen... been through the Matrox products fairly in depth and i'm not to sure if it is the right way to go tho'.

from the FAQ
"the TripleHead2Go will cause the graphics device already present in your system to generate the ultra-ultra-widescreen image, which is sent to TripleHead2Go. TripleHead2Go then splits this ultra-ultra-widescreen image into a left section, a center section and a right section and sends the normal size images to regular monitors."

this worries me a bit... seems like a helluva hit on the vid card.

also it is not the game recognising the rez that worries me, it is the hit on the video card. supposedly there is software that comes with the th2g that can "mod" a non compatible game to run properly(?) but again the hit on teh vid card "may" be an issue.

I played Crysis on an 512MB 8800GT(S ..I think) on 3x 19" 1280x1024 LCDs on that rig ..it's lubberly! But I never liked what that w-i-i-i-d-e mode did to Hellgate, I prefer a single screen for that.

But it doesn't do all that much to the cards that I can see.

bdt:
how long you had to th2g for?

just looking at the site: they recomend using identical monitors while i will (maybe) running 2 wide screen lcds and a crt, this could be a problem...

i can afford 2 screens this month, but 3 and the th2g is pushing it (also i have no patience, if i want something, i want it now!</GRIN>)

p.s. plus, the bleeding car needs work...

Where you getting the monitors from, I see Dion Wired has 22" LG LCD's for R1999

Ghost02:
2232GW @ R 2472.00 2ms (1680 x 1050)

u got any details on the LG LCD's

just looked at "http://www.dionwired.co.za/container.aspx?ID=18&Cat=Computing" page is blank?

oh, yeh dealer is ZAPS @ the randburg waterfront (get on well with them so i like to give them business)

the 2232gw got some v/good reviews, so quite keen at the moment...

I don't have any details on the 22" at Dion, I saw it in their booklet thing. I suspect it's the same one that pc zone has, www.zones.co.za specs should be there.

Ghost02:
from what i can see it is a 5ms response, looking for a 2ms response, but thanks for the tip, appreciate the effort.
