A three-year-old girl was killed on Monday when the vehicle she was travelling in overturned on the R53 outside Potchefstroom in the North West, paramedics said.

"The crew arrived on the scene to find a three-year-old girl lying on the road. She was ejected from the vehicle after impact and died on the scene," said ER24 spokesman Gerhard Engelbrecht.

He said the driver of the vehicle was pacing the roadway, holding her two-month-old baby in her arms.

"The woman was driving from Ventersdorp towards Potchefstroom when she allegedly lost control of her vehicle and it overturned," said Engelbrecht.

The infant was suspected to have suffered severe head trauma, causing her to be unstable.

"Advanced life support measures were implemented on the scene and she (the baby) was rushed to Mediclinic Potchefstroom for urgent treatment."

Engelbrecht said the driver suffered minor injuries.

He said local authorities were investigating the cause of accident.

Want to take a bet that this child was not strapped into a seat belt?

What should happen to parents whose kids die as a result of not being strapped in?

No Child seat - Check
No Seat belt - Check

Okay off we go for a little drive

I honestly believe they should be charged with culpable homicide.
You hit someone walking in the street you get charged with culpable homicide how is this not even worse!

The way it works is it must be proved by the prosecution that a reasonable "man" in the position of the accused would have foreseen that death could result from his actions....... aaaaaaaaaah duh!

WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY?
• Legislation stipulates that everyone in a motor vehicle should wear a seatbelt.
• It is the driver’s responsibility and legal obligation to ensure that children are buckled
up in a car safety seat (child restraint) or seatbelt where available.
An adult is guilty of a criminal offence if he/she should allow a child younger than
14 years to travel unrestrained in a motor vehicle equipped with seat belts or car
safety seats
.

They just don't mention what criminal offense.
