Hi Guys

just thought id ask a maybe silly question:
does the kia picanto have a electronic throttle or a cable operated one?

reason I ask, is I got myself a ELM327 and torque installed on my phone, and the fault it keeps picking up is
p0122, which is something to do with the throttle sensor, also the throttle input never goes below 2.7% even when Im not pushing anything.

this seems strange as the throttle has a cable leading inside the car and that moves when you press the pedal,
but the fault is an electronic one, so I'm quite confused here,

what would be the best to fix it? is there some screw I can turn to adjust it?

anybody else experience this issue before and how did you fix this?

Well, I'm guessing that if the throttle went to 0 the engine would die? Suppose that 2.7 is just to keep it idling.

that's what I dont understand? anybody else have this issue? or should I say anybody else with this torque app check what their throttle does?
does it sit at 0% or always at something low like 2.7?

like I said, I got no aircon so its strange.

you do get a sensor called a throttle position sensor, usually connected to the 'axle' of the throttle butterfly. So perhaps the app is referring to that sensor.

as far as I understand, throttles do close all the way (on FI cars that I'm familiar with) and idle is maintained through an idle control valve which bypasses the throttle.

ok, I found out where this throttle controller is, Im getting a P0122 code on my app, hence my inquiry
what exactly does this mean? that the TPM is bad? its strange that it constantly sits at 2.7% and never moves downwards, when its off or at idle.
does this need adjustment? if so how would that be done? or is that controller bad?
the interesting thing is that the car is drivable, as many websites explain I dont feel any hesitation or stalling so Im not entirely sure whats going on here.

Let me try and get this right...

You bought an OBD device, loaded an app and now trying to diagnose problems on a problem free car and not even knowing what the error codes stand for?

*Trying to understand where this is coming from*

You should be able to adjust the cable on the TPS where the cable connects to the TPS .

no I am getting check engine light on my car, just trying to figure out what I can do about it, if its actually broken or it can be adjusted.

O ok :p Thought you bought a machine and now fiddling with the car and messing about.

On my car the throttle position goes to 0% (in the torque app) when it is not being pressed.

that's exactly my issue, what version of torque app do you got?

Im not pressing anything and it sits at 2.7%, and as a test I tried unplugging one of the sensors to see what happens it shoots up to 100%
when even if I push full down on the pedal it goes up to 80% max...

so im not entirely sure whats going on here, on the one hand I now know where it plugs in, but on the other hand im still not sure how to adjust it

as it cant be faulty? right?

just comes back ;)
like saying my keyboard not working, throw it away, problem fixed ..........:D

Anyway sounds like you should check that the throttle butterfly is capable of its full range of motion and if so you need a new TPS.

well, the car is drivable, and no issues with the throttle, I can drive perfectly well, got full range of motion
just trying to understand why it wont show 0% when nothing is being pressed, seems odd to me, also the cryptic code of P0122 which says the TPS is low input,

which means very little to me, maybe somebody here actually understands what this error message means?

The cable indicates that you have a mechanical throttle. So the reading being reported from the TPS. Either your throttle is not completely closed, or the sensor is out of calibration.

Just found this with a quick google:

silver 6693 suggested something, could be my throttle plate is dirty and needs cleaning,
he asked me if my car is stalling/hesitating sometimes which it is, but again Im not sure if that's due to the manufacturer fault I keep hearing of, or the missing sensors,or something else,
like the aftermarket exhaust.

how would I go about doing this? can the throttle be removed and then remounted to clean it? would any garage would do this for me? cost?
also if the sensor is replaced would that help in the fuel economy of this car?
