Just wanted to give praise to afrihost. I wasn't sure when I was going to be upgraded to the new 4mb speeds from 2mb (as per the free telkom speed upgrades).

I emailed them today at 3:43pm to inquire about how the process works and at 4:39pm I got an email back to say they have increased my speed to 4mb.

And this considering that my ADSL line is with afrihost.

Isn't that the norm with Afrihost capped accounts? They go as fast as the line speed goes and you don't need to give them notice about it?

If its capped, then it makes sense, but I know for a fact that they are not upgrading uncapped accounts (yet).

Are they only upgrading those people who ask so they make more profit? Or are they upgrading everyone?

Using their app I just reset my port and it went straight to 4096! Took all of 30 seconds

As much as I would love to send some praise Afrihosts way, this really has nothing to do with them. Telkom do the line upgrades, it is their system.

I guess I'm so used to bad service in this country that even when something is done the way it should be, I feel like I got great service.

Anyways, I'm still chuffed with my new speeds :)

uhmmm... wait... what?

My sentiments as well. This might open the floodgates for these requests.

Let me be first
Afriman, please change my profile to 4mb(ADSL checker says I should be on 4mb, but only syncing @ 2mb). You have my details. Thanks, much appreciated. :)

Glad you're happy, and welcome to some faster interwebz :)
All of our Capped accounts will operate to the fastest speed of your line, aything up to 40Mbps.

Yeah... 4 meg line .. thumbs up to Afrihost. Been trying to get them to fix it for a few days now.

My problem is that the prices on Telkom's side has changed for the ADSL Line but not on Afrihost's.

I am on 1Mbps Business Bundle. Now I am happy, more than happy, to pay the extra bit for the 2Mbps Uncapped DATA portion of the bundle but it kills me that I cannot request that my ADSL line gets bumped to 2Mbps but with the new pricing. The AH rep that just helped me on the phone told me that only once Telkom has finished with the entire network upgrade, only then will AH adjust the ADSL line pricing. This makes no sense at all.

AfriMan and myself answered this in the Business thread :)
