Yes i know the thread title is a little shocking, but seriously impressed. I stay in a little suburb above PMB. Applied for my Telkom line, and 2 weeks later, it's activated. Technician arrives at my house, 5 minutes later, he tells me, all sorted, and by the way your exchange is 10meg ready! Still can't believe it. Then, and here comes the clincher, he asks what ISP i'm going to go through. So told him Telkom too expensive and no uncapped. He proceeds to inform me that Other free the web ISPs and so on, are halving the line speeds of their clients. He's been to numerous call outs to check line speeds, and when he does a speed test with the clients ISP, it comes through at lets say 2meg on a 4 meg line. But do the same test on Telkom backbone and it's full 4 meg? So ja, this time i'm giving a thumbs up to Telkom, just this once!

Well done, glad to see they are atleast doing right in some places if not all.

Good to hear that you are 10MB enabled.

Personally regarding uncapped, i was a heavy user before, before all the uncapped price drops etc surface (ala MWEB) and to be honest i have still not jumped to an uncapped package and bear in mind i did about 0.8TB per year :D 66.6GB per month roughly speaking. This being on capped packages, have been happy with my TK 5GB package which gives me 9GB INT and 30GB local.

I say give your capped account a go first before jumping ship, it doesn't have to be with TK and prepaid accounts are very cheap too.

Let us know how your 10MB speed comes along :)

cheers

I've been waiting for my adsl line to be installed in my home since April 21 :D

My Telkom line is running flawlessly since being installed yesterday!!! :D

Got a courtesy call from them this morning asking if all was alright and running smoothly. Good on ya Telkom!!!

Which Suburb are you in cause my exchange isnt on 10 meg apparently

Well, the technician asked my 3 days after I applied if he could come install it. I wasn't home when he wanted to install the stuff, so I asked if he could come the following week. He did, but there was no cable near me, so they had to install a pole and all that slep. I think everything was done within 2 and a half weeks after telkom warned me it could take up to a month because of the pole story.

I'm in Merrivale Heights. Also couldn't believe it when tech told me it's 10meg available. I haven't upgraded from 384, but when the tech came to activate the line, he showed me the speed the exchange is rated, and then the synch speed and d/l speed. Really impressed. How does one apply for the 10 meg? AFAIK, i order the 4 meg line? Thanks

I'm personally not a fan of praising a person/company for providing a service/product that you're paying a lot of money for.

Well when it comes to Helkom... i suppose superior service is often at a premium... so might as well be thankful and appreciatative

The first time i ordered a line, they suggested a pole too. But then i didn't want a pole in my yard, so i bought those white cable pipes, and dug a whole from their pole, to my house and threaded the line through that. Was cheap and had it done way faster than waiting for a pole.
