I paid for the Telkom Entertainment add-on, specifically for zero rated streaming of ShowMax on my Apple TV 4, today I find I'm capped after a weekend of streaming Showmax.

Has anyone actually got this add-on to work?

Knowing Telkom I probably won't see this wasted R99 refunded...

I've called Telkom to get this R99 refunded, I've been transferred to "Technical" but I don't have the time to wait for more than 15 mins on the line without a response.

The add-on wasn't working correctly for Showmax in early March due to changes that Showmax made to how they streaming without informing us, that impacted the identification.

This was fixed, and I am aware of users who complained that got free topup.

I am also having issues with this service. In their latest product brochure, they've indicated that Netflix streaming will be allocated from the TI Entertainment Bolt On data. However, it isn't. I've logged a query which they are investigating.

My other issue with the add-on is that it's only 10gigs at normal speed. After that, it's throttled to 128kbps. I haven't used up the 10gigs of soft capped data, but I can't imagine streaming anything at 128kbps! The add-on doesn't seem worthwhile.

We haven't had problems reported regarding Netflix, but note that it can't work if you are using a VPN for Netflix to bypass regional restrictions (because then we see VPN not Netflix).

Do you have a reference for the 'query'?.

I think you are confused about how it works.

Hi there,

I have exactly the same issue as George.

I was disappointed to see that I only got 10Gb under the "Once-off TI Entertainment" category. After that was done, a weekend of kids programs, it started using my normal data. There is a seemingly unlimited looking "Once-off TI Entertainment 128Kbps" category, but it does not get used, it just chows my normal data.

Way to go Telkom. This is not what was advertised at all.

i had the same issue with them this month
basically i used common sense to figure that once the 10GB is used it would move onto the TI entertainment 128kbps then only once that allocation was used (yeah right coz its a huge amount of data allocated to it) then it would move over and start using from my 30GB data bundle.
Last Tuesday I finished the first 10GB then for whatever reason it started using my 30GB bundle...i logged a query with a technical consultant after she confirmed that I was right in my thinking that it would move directly over to the 128kbps...then after a week i am told (after many an argument) that their system is correct and as per their fair usage policy (which is a bit vague) and that the 128kbps would then be used after the data bundle....

now maybe i am crazy but that doesn't make any sense...
i just keep getting the same response from them about it.
very disappointed

Yup.

And now the Telkom people are not sure if they can cancel it, without cancelling my entire contract.

How such stupid exists is beyond me.

Us poor South Africans.

WHAT??? that makes no sense. all they need to do (seems simple to me) is change the sequence in which the bundles are used...
i have 4GB of the data bundle left (was 20GB before the TI 10GB ran out) so will see what happens when it runs out. i wonder if the 128kbps line will even work.

The only way you can use this "unlimited" data, is when your normal data is finished.

So all you can do is watch ShowMax, the rest is out of bundle. Maybe Telkom is actually more evil than stupid.

Pfft.

Dealing with Telkom is like flushing the toilet when some of it splashes up into your mouth.

The add-on works like this:
- Qualifying traffic never gets counted to your normal quota
- When you finish your normal (e.g. 10GB of everything else) all traffic is throttled as usual

We have tested this many times and it always worked (except with some specific problems caused by Showmax changing things on their sode without informing us as agreed, but this is now permanently resolved).

There are two ways to buy this, prepaid (credit card from topup, lasts for 1 month, you need to buy it again of it expires) or postpaid recurring (you need to call the call centre to order it).

There is a problem with the display of prepaid TI Entertainment on tracker (but you should see that the qualifying traffic doesn't come off your normal quota, usage displayed on tracker is less than 15 minutes behind). A solution to this issue should go live early October.

I believe the display of postpaid TI Entertainment works correctly.

There could be problems with provisioning of postpaid TI Entertainment. If you have ordered it, but on tracker it shows "Not applicable" or similar under the Add-ons menu on tracker, then you haven't got it even though you may have ordered it. This is a Telkom Order Management problem which could result in your incorrect view of the product, not a problem with the way the product works.

If this is the case, please log a fault and send me the fault reference number and I will escalate.

(I can't test this myself, my personal account is an uncapped account).

oh my hat - We've been fooled by their advertising AGAIN - fortunately its a month to month service and we're not bound by contract...
why can't Telkom just allow us LTE users full access to Showmax without affecting our hard earned data...
The only reason why I'm on LTE is because Telkom said I needed to upgrade as the copper in my area is to far from the exchange.....
thanks to mybroadband for accepting our moaning.... sure as hell telkom will not listen to us.

Argh - I signed up for this R99.00 before reading the issues :'(

EDIT : Though, conflicting information above. My understanding is that I have 100GB cap and if I only stream Netflix/Showmax the entire month, I'll still have 100GB left in the end. Netflix will never be throttled and I'll always have my 1080 / 5.1 sound?

If I use the full 100GB on Facebook and throlled to 400kbps ... my Netflix will still be unthrottled at 1080 / 5.1 sound ?

Hmm, it isn't clear which product you are referring to, the TI Entertainment bolt-on that has been available for about a year (and this thread, on the DSL ISP subforum, is about), or the thing that Telkom Mobile introduced recently, and what aspect of any advertising fooled you.

Correct. If you really don't do anything but Netflix or Showmax at all (no automatic windows updates, no ap updates on phones etc.) there may be a few MB used of your quota for DNS queries etc.

No, at present the business rule is that you need to be "in good standing". If you are in Softcap mode, all traffic is limited together. You would need to either:
- buy topup using your credit card
- buy topup using your Telkom account (topup bundle will appear on your bill) by calling the call centre, but be sure to check that the agent is doing that and not something stupid like buying you another account (which won't have TI Entertainment) which they seem to do if they don't know the products
- enable out-of-bundle (used to be called post-paid but that is now ambiguous) which would allow you another 100GB of other data billed daily per MiB on your account at nomimal topup rate
- upgrade your account to a higher Softcap account

Thanks. Seems to work.

Anyway to make it recurring?

Just to be 100% sure Ranger, I subscribe to Netflix SA, can I also add T1 Entertainment to my Telkom account? In other words, it's not just for ShowMax?

My T1 Entertainment add-on also does not work on my LTE Contract.

Telkom added this, but I am wasting R99 a month..

I check the balance every time I stream and on the last day of the month it will show up not used:

TI Entertainment
GPRS: 10240 MB remaining
Expires on Wed Mar 01 2017

I have tried streaming on my laptop, windows and mac, on 3 browsers and both Showmax and Netflix apps and on the mobile browsers on my Cell phone and Tablet, the only app I can see working is DSTV Now.

The streaming of movies and series takes data from my normal data bundle on my LTE Sim with T1 Bolt Entertainment loaded monthly.

I switch off all auto updates and can see the only data being used is from the these apps at the time.

How do i fix this?

If I open a case the case moves to resolved without a fix.

They're not bothered to fix it.
I don't know how they get away with this false advertising on their site, but since they're a monopoly they're comfortable with their incompetence.
