TIK: The ultimate downer.

I watched the Ellen Pakkies story on the crime channel on DSTV. You guys should watch it :(

on such a large scale you're just inviting trouble

There is already trouble and current methods are not working. So what do people suggest? Same methods but more! This is not logic, in fact don't they say that one of the first signs of madness is doing to same thing over and over while expecting a different result?

I don't understand why so many people shy away from compassionate solutions. :(

the current methods are not being implimented properly. some people stop after being arrested, nobody will stop if its legal, more people will take it up because its legal.

Yes but if you had to look at arrest records, they're going up, not down. So are the number of users.

What on earth would make you say that? And you accuse me of pulling stuff out of my ass? :wtf:

I provide an entire country as a study for my thoughts on the matter and you dismiss it out of hand and then (far as I can tell) make up the above.

Come on dude.

Meth/Tik is actually a 90+% addiction rate - I doubt it's full legallity in even Portugal?

Addicts hide it very well. I dated a meth addict and - although I knew something was up with behavior - I didn't pinpoint drugs. They blame it on hormones, bipolar meds or something else.

Everyone says 'how didn't you pick it up?' but it really isn't that easy to pick up.

like i said, our poverty striken population (and that hit hardest by drugs) is more than double that of the entire country you provided. by making it legal, its only going to make it worse

on that note, my friends brother who was once addicted to tik is strongly opposed to legalising it, even weed which he said was his gateway drug

Pop quiz: Which European country has the most liberal drug laws? (Hint: It's not the Netherlands.)

Although its capital is notorious among stoners and college kids for marijuana haze–filled "coffee shops," Holland has never actually legalized cannabis — the Dutch simply don't enforce their laws against the shops. The correct answer is Portugal, which in 2001 became the first European country to officially abolish all criminal penalties for personal possession of drugs, including marijuana, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine.

What is the data to support your statement?

Gotta disagree with you there, I have a good friend who fell to the drug. From a wealthy family, dropped out in her final her of neurology and physics studies.

You cannot pigeonhole addiction.

What the current legislation is doing is promoting organised crime, gangs etc. Fark, right now I could get a gram of coke/tik if I drove into the known "hot-spots". What will the thugs on the street corner do, if there current "employment" is legalized??

yes im not saying its only the poor people, but they're most affected by drugs and its consequences. like this story here, a wealthy family can afford to send the girl to rehab, this mom cant

The gateway drug theory is utter, unabridged rubbish.

its seems like you're just looking for a reason to do your weed without getting arrested

She's become a monster.
So what is so special about this particular drug abuser being a methamphetamine user? Sounds like fairly usual extreme abuser behaviour.

Ellen Pakkies should have been jailed. She used the hysteria around this drug as an excuse to murder her son. Would she have been given a slap on the wrist and all these pats on the back if her son had been an alcohol abuser?

I heard that you will be immediately addicted to tik after using it once... This true?
Complete rubbish. In general what you'll hear about this drug in the news is 99% hysteria.

thats why i said its not being implemented properly

I see that you have resorted to unfounded accusations with regards to my character in light of any amount of evidence that will show that you are incorrect, I would have been happy to engage with you and perhaps teach you something, but like any child you have decided that you are right, no matter the evidence. Perhaps we can revisit this in a decade or so.
